GUILTY FL - Wayne Treacy for savage beating of 15yo girl, Deerfield Beach, 17 March 2010

The article says she can not talk or walk, or use her right arm and fingers, so I don't know how much of a good news that is.
How much can someone improve if even after all this time after brain injury, she can not talk or walk?

it can take quite awhile but full recovery is not impossible.

She might not ever come back 100% but can make a lot of progress. My son was in coma over three months and could not even hold his head up when he started rehab. They really work them hard- they have to re-train the brain to do everything. We forget how much the brain controls, all voluntary and involuntary movements. All thought process, everything. One way it was described to me is like throwing everything out of your file cabinet, you have to put it back one piece at a time.

"Deerfield school beating victim Josie Lou Ratley released from hospital."
Teenage beating victim Josie Lou Ratley has left the hospital and was taken to a rehabilitation facility, her attorney said Tuesday night.

Ratley family attorney Rick Freedman said the 15-year-old was discharged from Broward General Medical Center, where she has been since a brutal attack on March 17 on the Deerfield Beach Middle School campus.

Ratley now will undergo extensive rehabilitation, Freedman said, including occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy. Freedman would not say where the rehabilitation center is located."
:woohoo:

THIS is soo much better news than we were hearing about Josie! The fact that their IS Strength in numbers just sooo perfectly applies as our prayers & positive vibes have come freely to this young Lady since Day One! Now let's refocus those powers to her rehabilitation process! Go Josie, Go!!!

IMO -
RR!

This is truly a miracle. Thank you so much, River, for posting this wonderful news.

God bless you, Josie. You sure are a fighter, honey!

God bless Josie's mom for the wonderful love she has given her child.

God bless you, honey.

"Her family's going to be heavily involved in her rehabilitation," attorney Rick Freedman said. Ratley will need to undergo occupational, physical and speech therapy, he said, and her family will need help teaching her the things she needs to relearn.

BeanE, thank you for posting the pic above. Josie may not be able to speak or understand why she is the way she is right now, but that picture gives me hope for a good recovery. If you look at Josie's eyes, it is obvious that she is fully engaged and "present".

Found this, not sure if it was posted yet http://cbs4.com/local/josie.lou.ratley.2.1644414.html

snip~Thirteen-year old Kayla Manson was also arrested in the case because detectives say she knew the attack was going to happen and did nothing to stop it. Manson, prosecutors charge, pointed Ratley out to Treacy before he allegedly attacked her. Manson will be prosecuted as a juvenile to a charge of principal to attempted murder.~end

Well, I gave myself a time out on this thread, and came back to a mixed bag of news...

While I'm encouraged to see that Josie is aware, out of the hospital and in therapy, I'm extremely distressed that thanks to this 🤬🤬🤬, she will lose some of the most important years of her life - even if she is able to recover enough to live independantly, it will very likely take many years of constant, hard work to do so. While her peers are going to highschool, dating, going to prom and graduating, she will be in a 24-7 struggle to do things that we take for granted - speaking, walking, using both hands capably...Treacy may not have murdered Josie, but he has murdered any chance of her having a normal life progression, as even after she (hopefully) recovers physically, she will then have the unenviable challenge of going back and trying to make up lost ground educationally and in life experiences...

In regards to Treacy, I'm thinking that his lawyer is using the mental state thing as a tool to try to get his client a deal from prosecutors, as the whole three mile bike ride, text messages to freinds beforehand and the non-physical altercation with the girl he first thought was Josie point pretty clearly to this not being a 'just snapped' 'moment of uncontrollable rage' situation, which I would think would be the only way his mental state would really move a jury. While I would like to see him plead guilty so that poor Josie and her family don't have to go through a trial on top of the pain he's already caused, I'm worried that such a plea might come with some outrageously low sentence.

Discovery has kicked in. Found this tonight. But this 'rag' of a newspaper doesn't release PDF files containing the actual docs like the media outlets in Orlando. Hopefully one of the media outlets down here will release them.

Still, the docs don't contain the text Josie sent to Treacy.

Hours before a savage beating at Deerfield Beach Middle School in March, the teen charged in the attack told friends via text messages that he planned to snap Josie Lou Ratley's neck and stomp on her skull to kill her for badmouthing his dead brother.

"Snap her neck then stomp her skull. Fastest way I could think of," read one of the texts, which were released Wednesday in discovery in the court case against Wayne Treacy, 15.

I imagine it is going to be hard for his lawyer to argue he just snapped, when he send messages saying exactly what he was going to do, and then tried to do it. Sure screams of pre-meditation to me. And if it was hours or hour before he actually went to her school to do it, sure seems to me he should have had enough time to cool off.

plus - it says in the article that he was AT the school BEFORE dismissal (actually sitting across the street, waiting). Pre-meditated NO DOUBT there. This kid is going to fry!!!
People down here are just livid about this and it is not going to go away.

Awww, poor little Josie. I'm surprised her face didn't end up looking deformed. I hope she is rocking out at rehab and kicking some butt to get better.

TY BeanE for the continued updates and photos of our girl. Still praying for a full recovery. Miracles DO happen. Don't forget Nadia. I am still praying for a miracle for Josie.
