Holy cow! Murders in 1982 in Pasco County..When my high school, shows up on 48 Hours...Does anyone remember Wendy Huggy missing? She was last seen at Countryside Mall in Clearwater, but was residing here. I think she was 16, which means she should have been a 9th grader at Gulf, when I was in middle school. Anyone remember this???
I asked to join the group. I'm not sure she attended at Gulf High. There has been some missing person websites that say she lived here with her grandparents previously. Then it says she moved back to Illinois and eventually came back to Holiday a few months before she went missing. That is the time frame I first met her. I'm curious if anyone remembers her if she did indeed live here before.

I am glad to see the other responding to you. Maybe a old memory will pop up in someone's brain and it will help.

She has a half brother.
Oh that’s right. Thanks for the reminder. I bet he provided them.

I have been wondering about her glasses. They look like they’re sturdy plastic frames. If her remains were found, I wonder if she would have had them on or with her.

Just bumping up Wendy's case with this old article. It may have been posted previously or maybe in the prior thread.

Thirty years later, Pasco girl's disappearance still a mystery

snip
Few people alive today remember Wendy Huggy. Her grandparents have since died. So has her mother, who always held onto hope of finding her missing daughter.

But some still feel the void she left behind.

Cash Leverence is Huggy's half-brother. Though he never met his sister, having been born after she vanished, he witnessed the effects her disappearance had on their mother.

"She was tore up for years," said Leverence, 29. "It definitely bothered her."

As a child, Leverence remembers periodic phone calls his mother would receive from Florida sheriff's deputies or members of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

"She talked about it a little bit, but not too much that I remember," Leverence said. "Growing up with her, you could see the toll it took."

Spragg, too, remembers her sister quickly changing the subject whenever Huggy became a topic of conversation.

"We were all devastated because this is not what you expect or plan for," Spragg said.

I’m not sure if anybody has posted about this but has anybody looked into her uncle who she was supposed to meet? It says that he is about five years older than her, so I did a quick search of him and found that he has a criminal record (really only theft charges though, nothing violent that I could find.) But another thing that I found strange is the fact that his current address is right across the street from where another woman (Gail Ann Russell) disappeared. It is probably just a coincidence considering the fact that Gail’s boyfriend was suspected of being involved in her disappearance and probable death, and also since she disappeared almost 27 years ago and Wendy’s uncle is currently living there. (according to FastPeopleSearch) I don’t know, this connection is likely meaningless, but I just wonder how much has been looked into regarding her uncle. Anyone know?

On Websleuths, it is against TOS to sleuth family members unless named as a POI by law enforcement. Sometimes, finding more information about a victim's family can be very helpful. Tread carefully, though.

@Sleuthster , is this generally known?

(just don't know the details of your friend's disappearance, sorry!)

Wendy's Uncle died many years ago in Clearwater according to detective Lisa (can't remember last name) I spoke to years ago. Gail Russell I believe went missing from Pasco County. Wendy's Uncle was interviewed at some point before he died but I dont believe he was a POI. He claimed he did not see her that day even though he lived in the same apartment complex as Wendy's friend she was visiting.

The Pasco County detective (Lisa) told me the Uncle had passed many years ago. So unfortunately they were not able to get much info about her supposing to visit him that day.

Thinking of Wendy. Maybe they'll find her this year and she can go home.

The grandparents may have even called the police and tried to make a report earlier, but didn't until a week later because she was considered an adult and there was no real reason to think she was in danger (at least from the point of view of the police). . Many of these reports are based on the date of the actual missing persons report, not the time the family first attempted to report the person missing....at least her grandparents did love and care for her
rest in peace Wendy
