Human remains found in ditch along road in Marion County, sheriff’s office says - WKMG
Investigators are working to identify human remains that were found in a ditch just west of Wiersdale, discovered Thursday by people who were changing a tire along Southeast Highway 42, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the area of the 12000 block of SE Highway 42 around 4:50 p.m., the sheriff’s office said on social media.

Marion detectives as of Friday were reportedly working with personnel from the Medical Examiner’s Office and the University of Florida C.A. Pound Human Identification Lab to identify the remains, as well as to determine if the remains are related to an active case.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Marion County at 353-368-STOP (7867).

Based on where the remains were found and the items found at the scene, detectives believe the remains are those of Crystalyn Mobley, who went missing in October of 2022.

According to a missing persons flyer, Mobley went missing when she was 24 years old, last seen on Oct. 16, 2022, in the 10800 block of SE 166th Lane, a Summerfield-addressed area just over a mile away from the ditch. She was considered endangered, described in the flyer as potentially having made statements that prompted concern for her safety.

WEIRSDALE — Law enforcement officials have confirmed that human remains found last month in a rural portion of the county are those of the missing Crystalyn Mobley.

Marion County Sheriff's Office and a family member of the victim said officials from the Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the news.
