A Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report says a man found the woman's body at the water's edge in the 111000 block of Heckscher Drive early Saturday morning.
JSO: Woman's body found on Little Talbot Island

A fisherman discovered a deceased woman's body Saturday morning along the Fort George River near Little Talbot Island, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Authorities are treating the case as a death investigation but have not ruled out foul play.

A JSO homicide unit was dispatched to the Fort George River Access parking lot just before 6 a.m. after officers said they were notified by an early morning fisherman about the body's discovery on the beach the along waters edge.

The fisherman, who did not want to be named, told First Coast News that he was flounder-gigging alone near the parking lot of the river access at 4:30 a.m. Saturday when he happened upon the body along the water's edge.
"She was laying on her side, out of the water. Her head was at the water's edge, so I wasn't sure if she was alive or not," he said.

He had hoped that the woman had simply passed out and tried to wake her, but a grizzly detail left him shaken.

"Then I saw some blood, and that's when it really set in that it was bad," he said.

Unsure if the woman was killed or if other's were watching him, the fisherman backed up onto the sandbar to call 911.

"I realized it was something deadly, and it just felt like evil," he said. "And I thought, 'Oh my God, something has happened to this girl' ... and I could have just walked up on it. Could have been in the middle of it. "

I'm glad it wasn't foul play, and that she's been identified. Rest in peace, Ms. McCollum.

And I hope the guy who found her is okay. He sounds like he was pretty shaken by the experience.

I can't read the article posted in #3 - why isn't it foul play?

TIA!

That often means they have clear evidence of suicide.

The guy who found her was pretty specific about blood.
