"An elderly Jewish man was shot four times in a drive-by shooting as he sat outside a North Miami Beach synagogue Sunday evening waiting for services.

Local news media said Miami-Dade Police “detectives are investigating the shooting as a possible hate crime.”

According to Yeshiva World, the man in his mid-60s, identified as Yosef Noach ben Leah Tzivyah, was outside Young Israel of North Miami Beach waiting for mincha, or afternoon prayers, when six shots were fired from a dark colored car. Four of those shots hit the man in the legs."

The victim was shot several times in the leg on Sunday evening, as he stood outside of the Young Israel of Greater Miami waiting for the daily mincha prayers to begin, according to reports.

Police told local media that a man got out of a black Chevrolet Impala and opened fire, striking the victim, age 58, several times in the leg.
---
The car had circled the synagogue several times before the attack, WSVN Channel 7 reported, citing unnamed officials.

"I call upon the U.S. authorities to put an end to the wave of anti-Semitic terrorist attacks that are being perpetrated against Jews in the United States. It’s time for Jews to be able to live their lives like any other citizen,” Yaakov Hagoel, vice chairman of the World Zionist Organization, said in a statement."

"Police are investigating the possibility that the shooting was an antisemitic hate crime, though security sources close to the Jewish community informed The Jerusalem Post that initial reports indicate the shooting was not directly targeting the synagogue nor the Jewish victim, but may have stemmed from an earlier incident between the offenders and a third party.

Jewish Agency Chairman Isaac Herzog said he has been personally in touch with community leaders and believes it is a case of antisemitism."

If it was antisemitism, that's horrific. If some violent monsters just decided to shoot a random man because they're mad at someone else, that's horrific too, but in a different way. So sick of all this hate and mindless violence.

An arrest has been made in the July 28 shooting at a Florida synagogue that injured Yosef “Warren” Lipshutz. Carlints St. Louis, 30, is suspected of firing on Lipshutz, 68, as he was unlocking the front doors of Young Israel of Greater Miami to prepare for a religious service. Young Israel is an Orthodox Jewish synagogue located in North Miami Beach, Florida.

St. Louis was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Tuesday, August 20 and charged with Attempted Felony Murder using a Firearm, Discharge of a Firearm from a Vehicle, and Aggravated Battery on a Person 65 or Older...

WSVN revealed detectives were able to name St. Louis as their suspect after noticing several unique features on his car that were spotted on surveillance video. Investigators also tied St. Louis to the crime through license plate readers and cell phone records that placed him at synagogue during at the time of the shooting.

I *think* Yosef Noach ben Leah Tzivyah is the man's Hebrew name. It's a little confusing as "Noach ben" implies a Gentile, or maybe in this case a convert. You'd be known in your Synagogue by both names. I'm not sure so don't take that as fact since I'm a secular Jew and don't follow the religious practices.

Yosuf Warren Lipshutz is his common, "legal" name. My Hebrew name is also different from my legal name.
