I’m struggling with understanding the roommate living arrangement.

Was the apt student housing off campus? I thought the roommate was NOT a student. Why would these two be arbitrarily housed together if only one was a student?

I’m not getting it. 🥴
Housing is directly across from campus. There are a number of off-campus student apartments surrounding USF with private keyed bedrooms and shared living space; roommates are often arranged by the apartment community. Although these (private) apartments are meant for students, not all residents are students.

It’s been my experience as a USF Mom, that housing for the Tampa campus and the Sarasota-Bradenton campus is notoriously difficult to find. My youngest had roommates in a townhouse for a couple years. Stayed with me for a while, found a different roommate shared place at one point. It’s really hard to find affordable, especially safe, housing.

I had no idea until this incident that landlords in Florida can deny housing based on even a misdemeanor conviction though most consider the nature of the offense, how much time has passed since conviction and whether the individual has shown positive change. This is a case where the nature of the conviction should have resulted in a denial.

I wonder if the rental date (date he first signed a lease) preceded the misdemeanor conviction. I could see it slipping through the cracks if the dates lined up that way.

Welcome to our forum. I’m so very sorry that we had to meet under these tragic circumstances.

I just wanted to express my deepest condolences to you and @Natashaaa and the rest of her friends and family. 💔

One thing I do no understand. Did the police search the victim's apartment and found nothing earlier or didn't search at all for the last one week? Both seems weird.

Yes I agree. They have not released any information about the investigation. Maybe it will make more sense once they locate Bristy and outline how the investigation evolved.

Published: April 25, 2026

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced the new development early Saturday morning, a few hours before Abugharbieh made his first appearance in court.

At the hearing, the judge decided he would be held in jail without bond at least until his next court appearance on Tuesday at 9 a.m. During that hearing, it will be determined whether he will receive bond or be held in pretrial detention.

I think Grace is right about the suspect's ability to lift a body over his head. I feel bad even speculating here but if her body was in parts I think he could have disposed of her in the water a few at a time. I don't know why he would have left Zamil on the bridge and taken her body parts somewhere else but it's hard to think like an accused murderer.

There's a hearing this morning at 10:00. I would assume he's appearing but I don't know whether it will be broadcast. I think

Two things are bugging me about this case.
1st, if the murder happened at ZL's apartment, how come nobody else heard anything? Those areas are pretty well congested and busy. The buildings are small and without much insulation. This also indicates HA probably attacked ZL pre-planned and with full force, giving no chance of self defense.

2nd, why would NB willingly risk her life for ZL? It looks like ZL was forced to text her, and NB immediately came to do so. It is not an unusual behavior from a young woman. But NB knew ZL for just 9 months. NB came to USA in last August. She probably got introduced to ZL through social circle in last September. There's no report that they were spending a lot of time together. I haven't found any couple photo either. So it seems a bit odd that she rushed to save him.
Either way, we will know a lot on April 28 when the hearing will begin.

I think it's a good guess that Hashim lured Bristy by taking Zamil's phone + pretending to be Zamil... I wonder what he said. Maybe faked a family or some other kind of emergency? She was a good friend to try to rush and help him. 😞 Poor girl couldn't have known her life was in danger.

I am shocked no one heard anything too... student housing walls are paper thin! I guess if the murders happened around the time Bristy was lured away, 10am on a week day, most would've been at work or school... still crazy though.

It’s unclear when LE first checked ZL and HA’s apt. Would have thought that was one of the first place they searched. Wonder if this couple was held somewhere….and then killed back at the apt near campus…after LE had already searched there.

I am rather tempted to think that she rushed out because she got a silent call for help from Zamil and she may have heard the dispute. Jmo

This msm states that

The 26-year-old suspect was enrolled at USF from spring 2021 through spring 2023, but was not currently enrolled, according to university. Abugharbieh was pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in management during his time at the school.

While Britsy's body has not been found, her family told 10 Tampa Bay News they believe she is dead because of "the volume of blood" found at the shared apartment. Her brother, Zahid Hasan Pranto, says the family was told that her body may never be found and may have been dismembered.

I also don't understand how nobody heard anything. There are other things that don't fit yet such as between the time he killed them and the time he dumped their bodies where were they? It's not like he could keep them in the apartment.

I don't think ZL lured NB to wherever he and the perp were, or at least I'm not going to believe that until there's solid evidence. Why would he text/silent call her instead of one of his other friends? Why not text "help call 911 to apartment"? It just doesn't fit together for me yet. Hopefully like you say we'll find out more on Tues.

I’m beginning to think that Bristy was aware of the long standing problems with the roommates.

I’m also wondering if there were previous episodes of DV between Zamil and Hashim.

If previous issues were happening, I could see Bristy dropping everything (in an emergent situation) to go and help Zamil.

Now why? Why kill Bristy as well?

Possibly because she saw what he did or was doing to ZL when she walked into their apartment.

Such a senseless case. Pretty unclear for now, how and based on what motives this all unfolded.
