Has anyone else noticed that the numbers in Florida are raising by over a 1,000 a day? Whether this is because of more testing, or because more people are getting sick. Either way, it is not a positive, to see such an increase every day.

Yes it is increasing quite a bit. I have been posting the totals, so we all can see how it is escalating. It actually increased almost a thousand by noon today from last night (didn’t post this, but will post tonight so it will probably be even more).

I think it is a matter of both...testing and more getting sick. I’m sure those infected ships being brought in here will also add to the spreading even though they say they are shuffling them through.

@BUF I think that there is an under count. And I believe that there will be quite an undercount of the deaths from COVID19.

How you guys doing?

I know you all are starting into the steeper part of the curve and it's going to be stark and frightening, but social distancing works. Make masks.

Your stats will look scary for the next couple of weeks, partly due to increased testing, but mostly it will be the predicted mortality. For various reasons, the peak isn't coming to Florida for about 30 days - and then it'll be another month before things are "normal" again. I'm sure most of you have seen this:

It's by Johns Hopkins and it's been very accurate. They correct the algorithm as they get the daily numbers.

Stay well. Your situation is unique and we're sending good vibes from California.

Floridians - you may like to look into this ...

As reported by Hong Kong Apple Daily, a Chinese American woman was filling up trolleys of 3M masks at shops in Florida, for selling them to China. She bragged on Chinese social media that those shops were not aware of sales limits, and that she took them all not leaving one for Americans.

I ran a quick Google search on Jiang Hexin Florida but cannot find any authoritative news source in English on the story.

@Skully I honestly wish I had your faith. I think we will need all the help we can get and hope you are right.

I hope all of you realize that the places hit hard aren't unloved by God or lacking faith. It's so hard to think that God would only help some people (who are faithful and praying) and not others.

Stay safe. Knowledge is power in this event.

It could be my being deathly afraid of watercraft of any kind - so I will have to plead ignorance here:

Precisely how are so many people able to afford these cruises?

I know a lot of people in Florida who go on cruises frequently. Think of people who are Double Income No Kids, people who are still working, but their kids are graduated from college, retired people who sold their homes, live in a small apartment complex or condo in Fort Lauderdale, they have significant amount of disposable income.

And the more cruises you go on, the more deals you get. So it makes it relatively inexpensive to upgrade to a room with a balcony.

I have been on a few cruises, and just didn't like the whole atmosphere. Or the amount of people. Some people love cruises. Others, like me, not so much.

Thank you for your reply.

All of a sudden I am thinking of how many silent film lobby card posters I can purchase for the price of a 30-day cruise. LOL

I’m with you @mickey2942 . We have always traveled extensively but prefer to get into the culture of the country....cruising has never been for us.

For many though love it. It is an all inclusive package so they know what they are getting & spending. I had heard these cruise lines were offering some great deals as this was hitting.,,,bet those folks who were stuck on those ships now looking back would have preferred to loose their deposits.

I am confident it is grossly under reported in FL. FL is not counting anyone who isn’t a resident. They’re letting that headcount go to that persons home location. It took too long for the tourists and snowbirds to leave. The FL residents who were traveling just got back a few weeks ago. Time to hang on tight, this is gonna blow thru here like a steam engine, and take people out. JMO.

I know. I know Florida, and the people who live there. It makes me so sad. So many of them have such fragile health. Just enjoying the sun, warm weather.

The governor just doesn't seem to get it. This tsunami is going to hit him like a ton of bricks.
