My daughter lives in a trendy tourist town, with a small college. Up and down Main street there are moving vans, small restaurants and businesses are closing down. Forever.

Wow. Be so sad to see chains come in, for a trendy tourist town.

It’s interesting the age range they have is 1-90 in Brevard County. I don’t see any news about an infant or toddler being sick. Then another county has 0-99 but again no news about infants, toddlers or preschoolers being sick. It’s like the statistic is useless. It seems like you would use the accurate ages of the youngest and oldest. Then the statistic becomes meaningful for the residents.

I agree. Why even put it in then.

I really hope they can throw the book at this idiot.
Florida Megachurch Pastor Arrested After Holding Crowded Service In Defiance Of Rules | HuffPost
I saw this story earlier as we probably all did, but didn't read the whole article and missed this aspect:

Howard-Browne had bragged that his church had special equipment to kill viruses. “If somebody walks in the door, it’s like it kills everything on them. If they sneeze, it shoots it down at like 100 mph, it’ll neutralize it in split-seconds,” he said last week.

I wondered why The Villages, a ‘huge’ retirement community in Sumter & Lake counties had such low cases (91 in Sumpter, 139 in Lake). These seniors are a very active, tight group that CoVid can get out of hand in a flash. I hope testing increases there quickly. The hospital there has had many problems...UF just took it over recently.

Of course, if they don't test anyone, there won't be any more positive cases in Florida. Gubbermint thinking by Homer Simpson. Doh!

All counties in Florida except for Liberty are now reporting cases (even with the limited testing). Florida has 67 counties.

Florida coronavirus update for Thursday: 666 new cases, 31 new deaths

Nationwide, with over 432,000 cases, the U.S. death toll is approaching 15,000. Worldwide, there are over 1.5 million cases and just under 90,000 fatalities, according to the Johns Hopkins University & Medicine Coronavirus Resource Center.

Florida’s death toll passed 350 — including two new deaths in Volusia County — at what could be the beginning of a surge that may not relent until summer. The state now has 16,364 cases and 354 deaths — an increase of 31 deaths since Tuesday night and 666 more cases.

Central Florida now has 2,114 cases. Orange County leads the region with 857 cases, followed by Osceola’s 295, Seminole’s 228, Polk’s 212, Volusia’s 179, Lake’s 139, Brevard’s 106 and Sumter’s 98.

Central Florida’s death toll stands at 38 as of Thursday morning. The region’s two newest deaths, both in Volusia County, involved a 79-year-old man who had traveled to Aruba and Curacao, and an 84-year-old man whose case was not travel related. (See details on all Central Florida cases here).

The testing site at the Orange County Convention Center was set to have 350 tests available Thursday. The site recently expanded its testing methods to include throat swabbing tests provided by the state. Also Thursday, AdventHealth announced it will offer drive-through testing sites that won’t require a doctor’s prescription, the first to open Friday at Daytona International Speedway.
Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said Disney and Orlando’s other theme parks closing March 16 was a “pivotal moment” for slowing the virus not only in Central Florida and the U.S. but worldwide.

“They put the people over profits, and if that had happened all across America, perhaps America wouldn’t be in the position it’s in today” he said.

Thanks for posting this. What Mayor Demings (who used to be the police chief) said is so true. Disney NEVER closes, so when they did this time we knew it was bad. Too bad the Cruise lines didn’t follow.

Central Florida reports new coronavirus deaths, as state fatalities rise to 371

Florida had its first confirmed case of the respiratory illness on March 1 but quickly saw cases doubling, now standing at 16,364 cases across the state with 354 reported deaths, according to the Florida Department of Health’s latest numbers released on Thursday.
See Link above for the breakdown of cases locally:

While the FDOH reports twice daily on new cases and deaths related to COVID-19, measuring recoveries is much more difficult.
We do not currently measure ‘recovery,’ and don’t expect to have such a designation anytime in the near future. Recovery can mean a lot of things – some countries say you’re recovered 14 days from infection even if you are still sick, or even dead, based on a computer algorithm that calculates the amount of time passed since a case is first reported. The very definition of recovery is a contested issue – are you recovered once you’re no longer symptomatic, or contagious, once you get a negative test result, or no longer require hospitalization? Are you ever ‘recovered’ if you suffer long-term effects from having the virus? Until some of these issues and definitions are worked out at the local, state and national level, we will not be providing a metric for recovery,” the FDOH wrote on its website.

Oh no...please just let them stay out for the rest of the year...

Coronavirus: Florida school districts could return at different times, governor says

Governor also considering letting parents decide between sending kids back, keeping them home

“If we get to the point where people think that we’re on the other side of this [pandemic] and we could get kids back in -- even if it’s for a couple of weeks -- we think that there would be value in that,” DeSantis said.

Holy Virus Batman! What part of “silent carrier” is he missing?!?! He needs to stop saying it’s not impacting kids! I’m sure the families who’ve lost their children to this disease would beg to differ!

I would be interested to know how ophthalmologists are managing treatment for wet macular degeneration in Florida.

The patients with wet ARMD need shots every 6 to 8 weeks. And doctors offices are packed with patients. It is like an assembly line. If the patient's don't get the shots, their vision loss can get drastically worse.

It looks like quite a few offices are closed. Wow.

RCCL stopped The day I returned March 16- we were the last ones for that ship - I think the rest of theirs in process ended when they returned to port and are still closed
