RCCL stopped The day I returned March 16- we were the last ones for that ship - I think the rest of theirs in process ended when they returned to port and are still closed
JMO
There was information about this out in January. They should have monitored this more closely given that the ships travel all over with passengers from many different countries. Hopefully this will be done in the future. They are closed until mid May...for now.

Glad you were not affected...or should I say infected.

Florida coronavirus update for Friday: Infections have killed over 370, including cruise ship crew member

Florida’s coronavirus outbreak has now infected over 16,800 people and killed 371, with about 2,300 hospitalized with the illness. In South Florida, the hardest-hit area of the state, a crew member who was hospitalized after two ill-fated cruise ships with coronavirus patients were finally allowed to dock at Port Everglades has died, officials said.

Meanwhile, Gov. Ron DeSantis said he did not have a date on public schools reopening but he hopes conditions would allow it to happen this school year. Social distancing guidelines have forced schools to remain closed until the end of the month amid uncertainty over when the 2.9 million children who attend public schools can return to their classrooms.

There are STILL cruise ships out there! With passengers.

And I agree, the cruise lines have to have a better safety plan than "just go to the United States". Even ships that were flagged in Bermuda and Bahamas were denied port, by those countries!

I think that one problem was that crews on the ships were transferred around, that was the real underlying problem. This is fairly common.

This is going to decimate economies in the Caribbean that rely on cruise ship money.

Florida coronavirus update: 17,000+ cases, with 14 new deaths in South Florida
[...]

The latest data posted by the state’s department of health on Friday morning shows 17,531 total cases and 2,360 people hospitalized in Florida as a result of the virus.

Fourteen of the 19 new deaths reported were in South Florida — eight in Miami Dade, five in Broward and one in Palm Beach County.

[...]

The 10,207 cases and 225 deaths across South Florida’s four counties represent 58% of the statewide totals.

The department of health says that over 162,000 tests have been administered across Florida, with 11.2 percent of those coming back positive.

[...]

Miami-Dade County and several cities have instituted emergency orders requiring people to wear face coverings when visiting essential services to help slow the spread of the virus.

Our gov...geesh...

Gov. DeSantis falsely says no coronavirus victims under 25

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, four people between the ages of 15 and 24 have died from coronavirus.

One child under four years old has also died. None of those deaths were in Florida.

....and he maybe wants to open schools?

Thank you for not making me feel bad that I went - I can honestly say looking back now I don’t know if I would have given up the $ lost since we couldn’t make the decision to not go on their timeline - turns out the ship was less than 1/4 capacity and we are fine - IMO this really snuck up on me and I was not concerned at that time - now I know better thanks to many of you because I wasn’t getting any feeling of concern locally

@oviedo I am honestly glad you are okay.

These cruise lines have a responsibility to their passengers and need to monitor these situations carefully and they didn’t...too many people were put in a bad situation, some severely ill, and some died, and spread this thing way further. They should have cancelled and refunded.

Hi Florida neighbors- just popping in to say hello. Concerned about the upcoming hurricane season... We’ve had to evacuate the last 4 yrs- once from FL & 3 times from GA. With shelter in place orders & the harsh hurricanes of recent years- I’m wondering what lawmakers will come up with- preparing for evacuation scenarios. They better figure it out soon! Have y’all heard about any plans?

I think they are trying to get though this! But I would think they are going to have to make people where masks, gloves, and take temperatures before going to a shelter. I honestly don't know how we are going live like this until they develop a vaccine.

The scary part of this is keeping the sick and elderly safe. Parking people in rows of cots in a stadium isn’t going to do anything but create one big Petri dish. Here in SWFL, it’s the flooding that does the most damage and so many do not have flood insurance. The 2.5% deductible for a hurricane claim is shaved right off the top when you have a claim. So if and when you get a payout, you’re already in a bad place.

A few years ago when I bought my house, I had a new roof put on. I then added insulation board and screwed the bead board supports to the trusses. I have double pane windows that are old but seem sturdy. I replaced the French doors with wind rated patio doors. I’m hoping to shelter in place thru a Cat 3. I’m not in a flood zone or evacuation zone.

This decade is starting out in a really rough place. Pandemic, recession, and weather events to come.

Yes, I’m afraid this hurricane season will bring many more challenges this year.

My elderly FIL usually goes to one of those special needs shelter with his carer when things get bad. If I’m not worrying enough about him now, that will be intense...as for all those others in his situation...and all those affected with the virus.

IMO many like you (and I) will stay in their homes, and with that will come many more rescues in an overly stressed atmosphere if this virus is not controlled by then...and there is a good chance it may not.
