So sad...even gold teeth...

Pawn shops thrive in world of coronavirus pandemic
The precautions have been taken as the coronavirus pandemic, which has shut down some industries, pushes more people toward unemployment and sometimes desperation.

More people have been visiting pawnshops for short-term loans, offering up family heirlooms, wedding rings and even gold teeth as collateral, said Orlando Grafals, who has helped run Pawn Bros on Sand Lake Road for about three years.

“They need some type of income,” he said. “We can’t just give them a hamburger to eat once.”

Florida coronavirus update for Thursday: Death toll reaches 1,600 with 38,828 cases

??

The masks being given away are disposable but they can be used more than once if they are not soiled. Use clean, sanitized hands whenever a disposable face mask is put on or removed from the face. If the mask is clean after wearing, it should be folded in half (lengthwise or widthwise) and then folded so the outside surfaces touch each other. Place the folded mask in a sealed paper bag or, if you use a plastic bag leave it open.

You noticed that too? Over here rolling my eyes at this instruction.

Although they tried to put forth an effort...it may end up doing more harm than good in the long run. I can see people using and reusing these thinking they are safe...even if someone has coughed, sneezed on them or touching an infected area then touching the masks.

Most people think that soiled means looking dirty.

Someone headed south on I95 today said after they crossed the GA border into FL, cars were still being stopped and asked where they were coming from.

This may not be an issue for Florida, but I am sure that people will be traveling this Summer to Montana. And that is going to be a problem here.

Interesting tidbit. My treatment nurse today is in her doctorate program. The cancer center in Tampa can’t accommodate her doctoral project due to C-19. She is having to go to Sarasota’s hospital for it. I made masks for the Sarasota oncology team, so I asked her if she knew the lady I knew. We’re chatting away and I mention the skewed numbers. She starts telling me how badly Sarasota County and Manatee County have been hit. As in, a lot worse than Hillsborough County (Tampa area). She agreed it is likely not reflected in the numbers. Such an interesting conversation..... My opinion of course.

Miami-Dade wants COVID-19 reports from nursing homes, won’t rely on state data

Dissatisfied with the reliability of the coronavirus information being released by the state, Miami-Dade’s mayor is ordering nursing homes and assisted-living facilities to disclose COVID-19 cases and deaths from residents and employees in an attempt to produce data the state has been reluctant to release.

An emergency order signed Wednesday by Mayor Carlos Gimenez instructs residential health facilities to disclose the data when asked by Miami-Dade. The county plans to require daily reports.

My own opinion, is that the mayor needs the information, to determine spread of disease. He can't make informed decisions with flawed data.

Interesting, the local officials do not trust the data from the state offices. JMO.

I watched the CNN town hall on Coronavirus last night. I have to say how disappointed I was when Dr. Birx started inserting how well Florida and Desantis was doing when not even asked about it. I’ll wait to hear from Dr. Fauci, and follow this other information we are learning.

Jaw drop. Well, of course, looking strictly at the data provided by the State of Florida, every thing is going great. Nothing to see here.

"Come enjoy the beaches." (Line from "Jaws").

(Off topic) has anyone had the new Shingles vaccine? I had my 2nd one on Monday, and am having a terrible reaction.

I was super tired, headache on Wednesday, Thursday, felt so bad at work I came home, called the nurse, she said to stay home today, if I feel worse tomorrow, they might test me for COVID19.

Great. I went to the doctor's office Monday morning, first appt I could get, for this follow up shot.

My arm has a huge red lump, that is hot. I have had a fever 100 yesterday. I never get reactions to shots. And I have seen people go blind from Shingles. (Of course, I did work in an eye clinic with blind people). So that would be skewed data!

It sounds like that is a normal reaction to me. Your immune system doesn't understand why you've put that drug in your system. I would call the doctors office so they can document your reaction for sure. I didn't have reaction to the shingles vaccine at all. I had it after my bone marrow transplant too. I can only have "dead vaccines" now. No live vaccines ever again. Hope you feel better quickly. Rest and let your body heal.

Yeah. I don't know. This is the new and improved vaccine. Yay me.

I am never sick. Not like this.

I had the first shingles vaccine, but not the second yet. No problems with the first one for me that I can remember. Sounds like you having common side effects according to this site, but as always, check with your doctor. I think with all that’s going on that we are analyzing more than we normally do (I know I do), but you never know. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Interesting that NY got more info from a records request than was allowed to be published, if I'm understanding this right??

Grim Florida Records Recount Lonely Deaths at Home

The New York Times and other news outlets obtained the descriptions of the deaths — the first such statewide data from anywhere in the country — through a public records request. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which oversees the state Medical Examiners Commission, redacted the 203 pages to keep the descriptions and probable causes of death private.

Florida has some of the strongest laws in the nation protecting the public’s right to view government records. Complete information from medical examiners on deaths has never before been kept secret. But the administration of Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, has not been eager to release some coronavirus records. The state also initially refused to release information on nursing homes where outbreaks occurred.

Though large parts of the documents released this week were redacted, the text could nevertheless be extracted, copied and pasted into another file so that it could be read in full, The Times found. The spreadsheet did not include first or last names; each person was identified only as “the decedent.”

Interesting. I would really like to just see, how many people died between March 15 to April 30, 2019 and how many people died during the same dates in 2020 in the State of Florida.

It is like that information is being more closely guarded than how to build a nuclear weapon. Imagine that.
