My niece is a hair dresser. She posted on FB how she is starting with those that were scheduled when the shutdown began. I wonder now how things will go with the client base. Will the loyalty continue. Will people have money for the luxury of a hair cut, much less a color, a perm, etc.

My hair stylist decided to not schedule appointments right now. So, I went ahead and cut my own hair. And I am pleasantly surprised that it looks so cute. I did a pretty good job. Of course, it is just a short bob, with bangs. Perhaps not quite as shaped on the side. But it looks pretty good.

I cut off quite a bit. I am thinking about doing color tomorrow.

Jaw drop. Well, of course, looking strictly at the data provided by the State of Florida, every thing is going great. Nothing to see here.

"Come enjoy the beaches." (Line from "Jaws").

(Off topic) has anyone had the new Shingles vaccine? I had my 2nd one on Monday, and am having a terrible reaction.
Interesting you bring that up - several of my friends are saying it has been painful (shingles) and not sure they would do it again - I’ve not done it yet

Get the shot. I will admit to being unprepared for the 2nd shot effects. I have seen so many people be absolutely debilitated by Shingles. I jumped at the chance to get it.

It was so weird. I was at work on Wednesday, headache, tired, went home, to bed. Thursday, went to work, felt even worse, and finally left. I called the clinic, it never crossed my mind that this could be COVID19!

They asked me if I wanted to come in for a test! No...if I got worse I would.

Anyway, do get the shot. Shingles is bad news.

Established hairdressers have a client base that I think will continue...as long as they are adhering to safe practices. IDK about those walk in places though. Even though money may be tight, I think people will still go, but some maybe not as often. People will also want to look presentable if applying for another job...that is if any are available ever.

Coronavirus Florida: Schools to host drive-thru graduation at Daytona International Speedway

The adapted ceremony will take place at the Daytona International Speedway on May 31, for seniors at both Flagler-Palm Coast and Matanzas high schools.

Instead of walking across the stage this year to receive their diplomas, high school graduates in the Flagler County school district will be driving across the finish line at the Daytona International Speedway in May — an adjustment forced by the coronavirus pandemic.

The district announced Friday that both Flagler high schools will have ceremonies on May 31. Matanzas High’s ceremony begins at 11 a.m. Flagler-Palm Coast High’s ceremony starts at 4 p.m.

Each family and graduate will be allowed one car, and everyone must stay inside their vehicle. The ceremony will be simulcast via radio inside the facility and live-streamed on the FlaglerSchools.com website.

Flagler graduations were originally scheduled for May 28. A committee of students, staff and district officials met throughout April to come up with a solution. They didn’t want to push traditional ceremonies into the summer just to possibly have to move them again, and they didn’t want to host anything virtually.

My friend went to the mass food handout today at the stadium (SWFL). They had 9 huge trucks of food. The one thing she wanted was eggs. They didn't have any. They did give her a nice sized marinated pork loin though! The county is handing out a box of mixed produce, a box of staples and a gallon of milk. She even got snacks from Southwest Airlines!

Her produce box had zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and corn on the cob.

Next weekend is the one in my area. After seeing what they gave her, I know it will help my budget so very much!

Mass Food Distributions
All Faiths Food Bank is organizing two mass food distributions in Sarasota County this month to help residents who are recently unemployed or impacted by COVID-19.

May 9 – CoolToday Park (18800 South, W Villages Pkwy, Venice)

May 16 – Ed Smith Stadium (2700 12th St., Sarasota)

Both distributions – which are first-come, first-served – will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until food runs out or 2 p.m.

I really think now that this pandemic has taken over people’s lives, that smaller housing will be more than just a trend. Basic housing, rather than luxurious housing. Not that it won’t be just as pricey per square foot. Amenities to make people want to stay home and the sense of a small close community hopefully are returning.

People are buying things online like they have won the lottery. We are 10 times busier than the holiday season. Plenty have have the $ for the salons, imo.

The extra $600 a week for unemployment benefits is part of the spending spree. But, as my Mom pointed out, this may equal out what she earns all year long, and she may not have a job to go back to...

Maybe boredom? Traditional retail therapy not available in pandemic.

Some spending might be for adjustments to sheltering. When dorms closed, we had just downsized. New guest bedroom bare- had to suddenly buy furnishings just for our college student to move back home. We thought our nest was empty- who knew!

City of Naples closes beaches; emergency meeting Monday

The city of Naples closed its public beaches at 12:01 a.m. Sunday. City leaders said the beaches were overrun with beachgoers to start the weekend, so the move is a continued effort to stop the possible spread of the coronavirus.
......
“There was literally like people everywhere,” Ellanda Francois said. “We didn’t even know where to sit. It was crazy.”
......
“It’s huge groups, and it was like running the gauntlet just to get up the street and onto the beach,” Michniewicz.
......
“I took some pictures of cars that were from Broward and Miami-Dade dealership plates,” Price said. “And so you could tell from the cars.”

Shanghai Disneyland Reopens With Strict Safety Procedures

Limited capacity, face masks and plastic gloves to ride roller coasters: the opening offers a glimpse of how other Disney parks may cope.

From a business standpoint, Shanghai Disneyland will be operating far below its potential. The Chinese government has limited capacity at the park to 24,000 people daily, less than one-third of its pre-outbreak capacity. Bob Chapek, Disney’s chief executive, said last week that Disney would reduce ticket sales even further — “far below” the government’s limit, in his words — to make sure that employees can enforce new safety rules, including temperature checks for ticket holders upon arrival. Fewer tickets sold means decreased food and merchandise sales.

Yet the reopening carried immense symbolic importance. It sent a message to Disney’s furloughed park employees — 43,000 in Florida alone — about the future: There will be one.
.......
The limited number of tickets that Shanghai Disneyland put on sale for this week sold out within hours, suggesting that people are willing to resume public activities, even without a vaccine.

Time will test the ability of Disney’s theme parks to program out negative aspects of life and emphasize the positive.
......
To safely reopen, however, Shanghai Disneyland had to allow some of the grimness of pandemic life to puncture the utopian fantasy. All guests and park employees must wear face masks. Costumed characters are the only exception, and they now pose for photos from afar. The park is dotted with garbage cans dedicated solely to used face masks.

Parades have been suspended because people crowd sidewalks to watch them. Theater shows also remain closed. For now, Shanghai Disneyland will offer an evening castle show but no fireworks. To discourage people from bunching up in line as they wait for rides, Disney has placed purple social-distancing mats on the ground.

To ward off germs, Disney has decided to leave rows of seats empty on rides like Pirates of the Caribbean. Employees have been deployed to constantly disinfect ride vehicles and lap bars. Want to hop on Buzz Lightyear’s Planet Rescue, where riders zap targets with hand-held blasters? You now must wear plastic gloves.
......
It is unclear when Disney’s other theme parks may start to reopen. But Disney has signaled that its vast resort in Florida could be next. The shopping mall there, Disney Springs, will begin phased reopening on May 20.

Well this should be interesting. They are way more brave than me. No way on God’s green earth would I go to a park like that. I hope they have good tracking to see how many cases result from opening and how fast it spreads.

How will they control this? One entrance with someone counting people in & out?
