@BetteDavisEyes I made this tonight and wow! I couldn't stop eating it!

Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Dried Cherries

We're having Brussels sprouts with bacon and dried cherries as an accompaniment to swordfish tonight. I will use the last of what was a 4# box of dried cherries. I was hoping that Traverse Bay Fruit Co. dried cherries would soon be featured at Nino's so I can get more. Alas! The 4# box of dried cherries is featured on our Nino's Rewards this week :) I buy a box every year and use them in savory and sweet recipes: Brussels sprouts with dried cherries, Michigan (or Traverse City) salad, Dried cherry and walnut quick bread, Dried cherry, macadamia nut, and white chocolate cookies. Dried cherries are great for snacking, too - with walnuts and/or blue cheese. Yum!

"Alas!" -- is that a spellcheck thingie? Doesn't seem like the right word! ;)

I have never bought dried cherries. Are they sweet or tart cherries?

The dried cherries that I get are more sweet than tart. I suppose it depends on the type of cherries. I know that canned cherries can be sweet (packed in heavy syrup) or tart (sour cherries).

I see Traverse Bay Fruit Co has a 4lb bag of dried cherries for $38 on Amazon.
There are dried sour cherries, dried tart cherries, dried sweetened cherries- I had no idea! Thinking I might need to try a small bag. I love cranberries.

$38 seems high. Nino's regular price on the 4# box of dried cherries is 29.99. On our store rewards card this week, they are $26.99. DH is stopping at Nino's after his swim today. I have a limited grocery list this week, and he can handle it :)

I’m intrigued now and going to look locally online.

I actually have an update about the dried cherries. When I last looked at them in Nino's in early November, they were $29.99. DH bought the 4# box yesterday with a sticker indicating that they were 31.99. Sometime between pre-Thanksgiving and post-holiday season, the price was jacked up $2. As a rewards feature this week, the dried cherries are $26.99. DH wanted to know where the dried cherries could be found in the store, and I told him that they were either in the produce department or in the candy, dried fruits, nut display in another part of the store. He had to ask for assistance because they weren't in either of the regular spots. The boxes were on the floor near one of the check-out lanes. A 4# box of dried cherries usually lasts about a year, so I won't need to get them anytime soon. I wonder how they will sell at $32.

BTW, tart cherries and juice are helpful for arthritis, inflammation, and insomnia.

This reminds me of a wonderful book that I bought some years ago when I subscribed to Prevention. The Doctor''s Book of Food Remedies (Selene Yeager) was offered to subscribers when it was first published in 1998. I have the original hardcover version, but the book has been updated and is now available in paperback. There is an entire chapter about the health benefits of cherries. I highly recommend the book as an excellent source of information about the relationship between food and overall health and well-being.

In my food box was frozen turkey tenderloins. I can’t ever remember having them. I put them in the crockpot with a carton of cream of chicken soup, ground pepper, onion powder and garlic powder. I thought that would make a good gravy / soup for my sore throat / cold or whatever this is I managed to get.

I also was given mashed potatoes and fresh ciabatta bread. I’ll have to see what sounds good when it’s done.

The turkey soup should be tasty and soothing. I love ciabatta bread. I get the rolls, usually, at Trader Joe's.

I'm sorry you have a sore throat/cold. I hope it's nothing more than that. Any other Covid-like symptoms? I'm sure you would have a test if so.

I don't have that book but will check it out. I can recommend the Graedons' book, The People's Pharmacy Quick and Handy Home Remedies.

They have some other books too, and loads of information on their website.

Just left the clinic a bit ago. They didn’t seem busy but it took an hour and a half. Not enough Covid symptoms to bother testing for. The strep test was negative which was surprising. The doctor said it could be a viral laryngitis because my voice is almost gone. Either way they’re both painful.

I haven’t had a cold in years nor have I had this level of throat pain in decades. They are sending my test out to see if anything else shows up. I am waiting for CVS to fill the Lidocane throat numbing stuff they called in. Tylenol is just not enough. I had hot tea this morning and I’m sipping iced water now.

This sounds miserable. I'm glad you got medical attention. I assume you had no fever. But I think they should have given you a Covid test... MOO.

No fever and I’ve been sick since Wednesday. I can count on one hand the number of fevers I’ve had in my life. My chemo cocktail symptoms mimic all the Covid symptoms, except a fever. So if I do get a fever, I’ll be in the ER stat.

I ate some ciabatta bread warmed to make it soft and with real butter. That was yummy.

Sorry to hear that you are under the weather. Hopefully, FL weather is nice so you can sit outdoors and enjoy the warmth and sunshine. Only 23* here - but bright blue sky and sun. Feel better soon...

My soup concoction is good. The turkey fell apart and is very tender. I dipped the ciabatta bread in it and ate the turkey with a fork.

Slept for 2 hours. CVS finally had my med ready. Lidocaine Viscous. I have never heard of it. It didn’t come with a dosing thing. It’s 1 tablespoon every 4-6 hours. It’s supposed to numb me so I had to eat first so I don’t bite my cheek.

Is this a delayed reaction to the vaccine?
