Just took the last batches of Christmas cookies out of the oven. Since Sunday, I've baked about 4 dozen each Bizcochitos, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, Peanut Butter with Hershey's Kisses, and holiday M&M cookies. I more than made up for not baking at all last holiday season. I tasted one of each variety, but lactose intolerance keeps me from eating too many butter-laden treats. Wish I could share the cookies with all of you :)

I would love to sample your cookies, and anything else you make for that matter!

I woke up from my nap and it was dark out. I was chilly even tho it’s not a cold day. So I had tomato soup (Panera Bread brand from the grocery store) and made a grilled cheese sandwich. It hit the spot!

I’ve been looking at recipes for the Hershey Kiss cookies that don’t use peanut butter. Seems like they’re essentially sugar cookies. We can eat sunflower nut butter but it’s very thin if it’s not in the fridge. I’m wondering if I used a little extra gluten free flour if they’d turn out ok. I may need to experiment.

When my niece and her partner were here with their 5-month-old baby girl on Thanksgiving, I asked if there was something that they could use for their home. Niece indicated that she wanted to make her own baby food, so I said that I would order a mini food processor for them. We always have Macy's Star Reward money, so I ordered that Kitchen Aid food chopper for them. It arrived on Sunday, and as soon as I finish my cookie baking, we will deliver their food processor, more diapers, and Christmas cookies to them.

The mini food processors are perfect for baby food. There are all-in-one steamers/processors specifically for baby food, but they’re a waste IMO. We had the Beaba and Baby Brezza (around $150-175 each) and much preferred our cheap mini processor. So many fun recipes out there!

I always made my own baby food. Perfectly easy to just pop what you made for dinner in the mini, add a bit of water...done. I never bought baby food.

I also used it to make cat food for out cat when he was 19. He only wanted chicken. Heck, at that age, he should have what he wanted.

Cookies sound delicious. I bought some special dark chocolate to make chocolate cookies next week. And checkerboard cookies. My favorite cookie is tahini chocolate shortbread.

Yesterday I stopped at The Fresh Market on a whim. I never go there. I was looking at sunflower nut butter and it had whole sunflower seeds in it!! I thought that was weird. I also found a chocolate sun butter spread, sort of like Nutella, that actually looked good. I didn’t buy anything tho. I know Publix carries sun butter that is smooth so I will look for it next time.

What The Fudge Day here in SWFL. I ate some and holy moly is it sweet. I hadn’t made it in a few years. Sugar coma….

I used the recipe on the jar of marshmallow creme. I use real butter too. I don’t use a candy thermometer. Once it’s a rolling boil I set the timer for 5 minutes.

Here is the recipe I found online. I use real butter and milk chocolate chips. My youngest doesn't like semisweet chocolate fudge. If I need peanut butter fudge, I use the 10 oz bag of peanut butter chips. You can open a second bag and add more to get you to 12 oz but I never do.

ETA: I buy the small can of milk so I don’t have to measure it.

Season's Greetings! I hope all my Websleuths foodie friends are doing well and enjoying this festive season. We awoke to about an inch of snow, and it has continued to snow off & on throughout the day. It looks like we ended up with about 2". Too bad it couldn't have been next Saturday so we'd have a White Christmas: Not looking hopeful at this time.

My cookies have been delivered to assorted recipients, while DH and I continue to nibble at the leftovers. I still have a box of chocolates for the lovely staff at the nail salon and large boxes of Milk Bones for the local branch of Michigan Humane Society. We've already sent our annual donation to MHS but always enjoy delivering treats for the pets during the holidays. Other charities that we support during the holidays include St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and the Capuchin Soup Kitchen (Detroit).

We are still planning to have dinner at Picano's on Christmas Eve and will have a quiet Christmas at home. We will make Cioppino and enjoy Panettone for dessert. My brothers are going to come on NYE for a Prime Rib dinner, and we'll watch the Michigan game. With the omicron Covid variant running rampant, I'm glad that we don't have other holiday gatherings to attend.

Whatever you are doing this holiday season, I hope you and yours have safe travels and stay well. Enjoy the time spent with family and friends.

I am headed to Utah tomorrow to stay with my cousin Donna until NYE I’ve already sent my food allergy list to her. She is bouncing off the walls with excitement. She no doubt is going to try to convince me to eat all kinds of Slavic food and dishes. Her and my other cousin Cathy and my uncle are extolling the virtues of all these Slavic dishes on Facebook. There was one dish I declared would not pass my lips. It looked gross. Stay tuned!! LOL!!!!

I have my surgical masks, cloth masks, face shield, latex gloves and maybe I should make a sign that says “Don’t breathe on me!” I set up wheelchair service for each step of the way. There’s no way I can walk that far thru an airport. Maybe I can decorate my cane! Ha!

My daughters good friend works for Delta as a trainer. He’s looking to see if he knows any crew members that will be on my flights.

Quiet Christmas planned here but the house is looking v festive and I've ordered various special foodie bits and pieces - will share some pics when they arrive.

As we're all having to work, and Mr HKP in particular commuting to London by train, we're keeping fingers crossed to all be well and enjoy the break.

I've bought ingredients to have a go at making this cake. Looks so pretty here (mine will look like a five year old did it :D)!

What a lovely looking cake! Special treats our family will be making include baklava, cream wafer cookies, decorated sugar cookies, and the most delicious brownies in the whole wide world. I love this time of year when I feel totally justified having a sweet treat first thing in the morning with coffee!

Happy Holidays my friends! Christmas is fast approaching. One Christmas already canceled due to Covid. My 4 year old step grandson in Ohio came down with it the night before we were to arrive for our 2 day stay. These are Mr. Pirates kids from a prior and grandkids. My steps, but I love them all the same, of course. Evan is doing ok, just a nasty cold like thing for him. The other adults are vaccinated I presume, I know my step son is anyways. We will reschedule in January some time. Close call, one day later and we would have woke up with a sick kid in the house. Sigh.
This week we are meeting with close friends for dinner both tonight and Monday night. Both are in the Ann Arbor area so we are trying a new place tonight, Pacific Rim. The menu looks interesting. Monday night we are going to our favorite vegan place, Detroit Street Filling Station. Both dinners we will get dressed up for fancy even if the places are not particularly fancy so it will feel special.
Mr Pirate and I always have our own little Christmas Eve together. We used to go to a place every year in Ann Arbor but since we moved closer to Detroit, we need a new place to make a tradition. I am working on that.
Then the fun begins. All of my kids will be here for Christmas! They live in three different states and are flying in this coming week as well. We will host one, one is staying in a hotel and one will stay with my local daughter and my mom a few days each. Dinner is on Christmas day at my sisters in Grosse Pointe. Unlike me, she has a fancy big house so it is the go to place. Since this is the food and recipe thread, I will share some of the menu. I am bringing rolls, a vegan roast, mashed potatoes, gravy, pies and a selection of wine. Also on the menu is Salmon, veggies and whatever else my sister puts out.
So that brings me back to Covid. Fingers crossed that we all stay healthy between now and their arrival Everyone is vaccinated to the max, adults all boosted and kids that are eligible have them as well. There will be over 20 of us ( all immediate family) on Christmas day for the big dinner. I know it is a bit short sighted but I just hope and pray that we can make it to Christmas day, get the kids back home after and what will be will be. Hoping for a Christmas miracle here, for sure.

As for all of you here, I love hearing about your plans. Travel, special dinners and cakes...!

BDE, your posts always make me feel happy! This one especially. How kind and generous it is to think of others during the holiday!
All of your plans sound great as well. One of these days I will get over that way and try Picano's.

Happy Travels, PRN!! Keep us posted on your trip if you are able. I look forward to hearing about your Slavic meals.
