Treacle and molasses are pretty much the same thing. Just the geography is different. :)
In the states, we call the thick, sweet syrup "blackstrap molasses". I've never seen treacle in markets here. When I was in college, a friend had problems with constipation. She ate All Bran out of the box and stirred molasses into coffee or tea to help her "go". I don't use molasses often but always have it on hand.

Did you know treacle is an old school term of endearment too, mostly in London? Alright, Treacle?! I quite often message Mr HKP with a “morning Treacle!” when he’s at work :p

Yes and any fans of Adrian Mole will know that Pandora famously has treacle coloured hair…

It is the worst ingredient to work with though. It comes in a tin with a lid you have to wrestle with, then gets everywhere. Spoon vs spoon :p

To keep this sort of on topic, lovely long shelf life unopened of course.

The bird is cooked. Yesterday I did the turkey leg quarters in a bag too. I think I overcooked them a bit. I have them in the fridge. I finished the turkey breast, also in a bag, this morning, it’s still too hot to debone. Once it’s cooled off a bit more, I’ll get everything in the freezer.

I used fresh carrots, celery & onion. I forgot fresh garlic. Powdered seasonings I used were rosemary, Thyme, sage, pepper, parsley, garlic. I forgot salt.

I set the oven for 325 like the Reynolds turkey bag box said. I didn’t realize you use a bit lower temp. I haven’t cooked a turkey in a year. Lots of turkey sandwiches in our future.

Tetrazzini is thought to have been originated in San Francisco, named after a famous opera singer of the early 1900s — Luisa Tetrazzini — who lived there for many years. To my mother, however, turkey Tetrazzini is just another way of saying turkey casserole.

After my haircut yesterday, DH asked if I wanted to go to breakfast at the nearby Shine Cafe. Shine Cafe in Troy Michigan
We had a crustless quiche for dinner Thursday - eggs, chicken, spinach, Parmesan cheese on top. There was enough left over for a serving each for lunch, so I said we'd go another time. DH had gotten a roast chicken at Costco earlier in the week. I put chopped chicken in the egg dish and will put the rest in a Waldorf salad for dinner tonight. We were tired of chicken and shared a small Porterhouse steak with baked potatoes and sauteed mushrooms last night. Sunday dinner at Picano's tomorrow.

Flour and sugar were featured at Meijer this week, so DH got a bag of each in case I decide to do some holiday baking. I usually bake a few different varieties of cookies, but I'm thinking about pumpkin bread this year since I roasted our Halloween pumpkin and froze it in individual Ziploc bags. Each portion will render about as much pumpkin puree as a 15 oz. can. I also have a recipe for delicious cranberry bread; I already have a couple of bags of cranberries in the freezer. Plenty of walnuts, too, that I put in both quick breads.

Hmmm. Not sure I could stomach that dish. It almost sounds like tuna casserole. I’d need to take the mushrooms out of course.

Dishes that used to be appealing and sound good, once you’re on chemo, it’s like they don’t sound as good. Sometimes they look good, sound good but the taste is off. It’s not bad, unsatisfying I think would be the best way to describe it.

I can do turkey pot pie sometimes. The smell of the raw crust baking is odd to me now. But I like pot pies tho.

Oh my blueberry shortcake on the breakfast menu. Now that’s my kinda place.

That all sounds great! Let us know how the pumpkin puree comes out. Many years ago, I tried cooking a Halloween pumpkin, and wasn't happy with the results. It wasn't a pie pumpkin, though. But ever since, I've stuck with the canned pumpkin with the Libby's recipe on the can. :)


Have you ever made baked eggs Florentine? A local restaurant used to make this dish, and it was delicious. Unfortunately the restaurant didn't survive the pandemic. I tried replicating the dish but it was not as good. But I'll admit I'm not the best cook!

I have had Eggs Florentine on cruise ships and wasn't particularly impressed with it. I've never made it myself but would probably try this recipe: Eggs Florentine

The Florentine Benedict is my favorite breakfast at Shine Cafe that I mentioned in an earlier post. Their version is quite simple: toasted English muffin, ham, tomato slices, baby spinach, two poached eggs, Hollandaise. It's delicious!

I just found an Eggs Florentine recipe, baked in a gratin dish, that looks very much like the one I enjoyed:

I don't have a gratin dish but I have something similar.

The Florentine Benedict sounds really good. I especially love eggs Benedict with smoked salmon.

Today was gluten free enchiladas day. Mine had turkey! They were good, just a slightly different taste than the chicken enchiladas. I used refried beans with Monterey Jack cheese mixed in. Black beans with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder mixed in. Tomatoes, black olives, fresh spinach from the garden and colby jack cheese. I stuffed them so full that I can only eat half of one per meal. My kiddo was starving at lunch and ate one entire enchilada (no turkey in hers).

Thanks for sharing the recipe. It seems to have fewer ingredients and is less complicated than Giada's, but I'm not sure I could handle the heavy cream.

I've love Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, too :) It's not on the menu at Shine Cafe, but if we went there more often, I'd ask if they would add it.

Braising steak done in the slow cooker, new potatoes added to slow cooker also, served with brocolli, it was delicious and such an easy dinner to make.

I made leek and potato soup this week and it was a winner also. Just lots of leeks, potatoes, a few carrots, vegetable stock and wee touch of thyme. Sweated off the veg, simmered and then blended, but left some chunky bits.

I’ve been using the slow cooker as well. I like the idea of braising steak.

We had roast chicken on Sunday and yesterday I used leftover meat in a slow cooker soup with onion, sweetcorn, mushrooms, parsley, a drop of wine and dash of cream at the end.

We're doing a slow roast today. It's my mother's twentieth wedding anniversary with my late stepfather. She asked for a roast, so she's getting one. We'll put the meat in in the next few hours, and then we'll be smelling it all afternoon until dinnertime. I'll take a picture.

I boiled eggs today and thought to myself, either I'm boiling eggs, or I'm literally making a hot mess. I couldn't seem to get the burner down enough to keep the water from splattering everywhere. Anyway, boiled them 10 mins and then put them in ice water. The shell didn't come off easily on one so it looks lumpy. Oh well. Once I dice them over my cottage cheese or over my salad, they'll taste fine.

These were my old eggs. Today I bought a new dozen of Publix brand large eggs. Nearly fainted when they rang up $5.99!!!!!
