I belong in the ‘60’s.
I got the 60s too, but I have to say that meal was way, way too meat intensive for my tastes. Fancy stuff, for sure. :)

One of my friends is having a Titanic themed dinner party. Everyone has been assigned a recipe that was on one of the dinner menus for the the first class passengers.

Mine is an appetizer, Cream of Barley soup. I made it last night as a trial run, and it was very good.

It is going to be a 13 course meal so it will be fun to try all the different recipes that everyone makes.
I'm pretty sure I couldn't eat 13 courses! Maybe if some of them were only a bite or two. But it does sound like a fun event.

I think it is small plates, and spread out over several hours.

I hope you will give us a detailed report after the dinner!

Today is my husband's 75th birthday. I got him a Kitchen Aid 12" cast iron skillet. He was totally surprised and says that he will enjoy cooking with it. We haven't been out to dinner for a couple of weeks and will go to Picano's today.

We've had some lovely summer-like weather for several days, but evenings are cool, and we actually had the furnace on a couple of nights last week. Sprinklers were winterized last week, and DH stored the outdoor glass tabletops and umbrella. Some trees are starting to change color, but we are probably 2-3 weeks from full color foliage. It's fun to watch the squirrels running around the yard burying acorns. We'll order a 20# bag of walnuts in November to keep our little buddies fed during the winter.

We continue to enjoy Michigan corn and tomatoes and will have our first acorn squash of the season one day this week. We collaborated on a pot of chili last week and will get ingredients for veal osso bucco later in the week. Osso bucco usually takes about two hours on top the stove or in the oven, but I might try making it in the slow cooker this time.

Hope you had a joyful birthday celebration with your DH!!

DH used his new cast iron skillet to make egg-in-the-hole yesterday. He said that the skillet will take some getting used to but that he will eventually like his new toy. The skillet weights @10# - I can barely lift it! Doubt that I'll be using it much.

Women's gymnastics World Championships are on Peacock this afternoon. I did a load of laundry earlier so I wouldn't feel guilty for watching gymnastics for a few hours today. We'll collaborate on mushroom-stuffed acorn squash for dinner tonight, and I'll make osso buco tomorrow. Nino's didn't have veal shanks, so I will cook beef shanks with carrot, celery, onion, tomato paste, fresh rosemary and thyme sprigs, beef stock, red wine. Served with pappardelle pasta, osso buco is a luxurious Italian main course. Osso Buco

I absolutely love our cast iron skillets. I rarely use anything else. I even bake in them. They are heavy, though.

The mushroom-quinoa stuffed acorn squash was delicious! The squash was huge, so we only ate half. Second half for the weekend.

I've done the prep for the osso buco. DH said he might like to sear the seasoned beef shanks in his cast iron skillet. He'll stop for wine after his swim, and we'll work together to get the osso buco in the oven. I included mushrooms in the veggie prep because I didn't need an entire carton for the stuffed squash. I will also add a couple of garlic cloves to my bouquet garni that will include sprigs of thyme and rosemary, whole cloves, and a bay leaf.
