I am curious about your indoor grill. We grill a lot outside - all four seasons. Is your indoor grill able to create the caramelized grill marks and the taste an outdoor grill adds?

Might need to add this to my Christmas list.

Grill is a good one. You can go to Amazon and read reviews of that one and others.Hopefully

My first job, at sixteen, was at Taco Johns!
My first job was at McDonalds. Back then a Quarter Pounder Meal (sandwich, fries and a medium beverage) was $1.57. Don't know why I remember that.

The best job perk was if you were on the closing shift. We were able to take any leftover apple pies home for free. Normally there weren't any, but if you had a 'friend' in the back, they would throw a few in the fryer about a half an hour before closing.....

Chicken Cesar Salad with homegrown Romaine Lettuce, Little Gem Lettuce & Malabar Spinach. Marinated & grilled 2 big chicken breasts, which I cut down. It is so good!!!

My first job was at Frisch’s Big Boy. Employees got free meals during their shifts. We got paid $1.70 per hour plus tips, but tips did not amount to much. Although we waited tables many of our customers treated it like fast food, thinking they didn’t have to tip. Usually the most demanding customers were the ones who didn’t tip. Or they would leave a dime, or a flyer from their church.

I was just out of high school and had very little money, so the free meals were greatly appreciated.

Most of the employees were like me, young and and with little money. Our cook was very helpful, she would pack up extra food that would have been thrown out and give it to us to take home. One item on our menu back then was a ham steak, and there was a lot of good ham trimmed from each steak, meant to be thrown out. But our kind cook saved all the ham trimmings and put them into plastic bags for us. I made a lot of ham omelets and casseroles back then with ham trimmings.

This is great. I love it! And, BTW, thanks for sharing. It actually means more than you know.

Ah yes, I now recall the differentiations. I still will likely call icing "frosting," but the thin glaze is "glaze." I like all of it, but the ratio has to be just right. Not too much!
Yes!! The ratio is exactly what I had typed but then rewrote it :D

One of the best purchases we ever made a couple years ago was a Power XL indoor
Smokeless grill-- we use it quite often during the winter to grill stakes and chicken--
As winter approaches, DH hauls the grill around from the backyard patio to the garage. Unless it is bitterly cold with a significant windchill, he will grill in the garage (with door open, of course). Grilling makes everything taste better year 'round.

Between the cooked chicken breasts photo and the completed salad photo, the drill has moved closer. Hmm. Do you have some kitchen implement attachments for it that I'm not aware of? :-)

Multi tasking. I think I was drilling holes in a bin while food prepping.

This morning I was setting up an area for a bin of rutabagas & a bin of beets.

Oh I found a little yellow squash this morning!!

I'm pretty sure I saw someone on social media using a drill to shred pork for pulled pork tacos :rolleyes: Maybe it's cheaper than a Kitchen Aid mixer??

There is a lot of crazy stuff on social media.

One viral video I saw was a woman spreading tortilla chips on her kitchen counter, then pouring melted cheese and salsa on top. The counter was probably 8 feet long, and her guests could just serve themselves nachos directly off the counter. I thought it looked disgusting but many of the commenters thought it was genius.

A kitchen “hack” I saw was wrapping a roast in a double layer of aluminum foil, then placing it in the dishwasher to cook while washing a load of dishes.

both examples of cooking you mentioned are really gross especially eating off the counter top! As far as making a roast in the dishwasher, I think I read there are a lot of germs in a dishwasher- not very appetizing. Was this on Tik Toxic?

A few months ago, our dishwasher wasn't draining completely after the wash/dry cycle was completed. We thought we'd have to call a plumber, but DH did some online troubleshooting and followed instructions for cleaning the drain trap at the bottom of the dishwasher. It was caked with crud from food residue left on plates. Absolutely gross and disgusting! We didn't need a plumber, and the dishwasher has worked perfectly since the drain tray was cleaned.

I'm almost positive I've seen that one!

Really gross imo. I've seen a few questionable "food hacks" on YT shorts. Like steaming fish and veggies in the dishwasher. Just wrong.

Nothing gross going on in my kitchen today. Starting dessert prep for Christmas activities.

5 dozen Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookie “meatballs” are in the freezer. Wrapped each dozen in parchment paper & stuffed them in a gallon baggie.

Next is regular ones for those that aren’t GF, like me!

I’m also going to make fudge & freeze it. I put an 8 x 8 pan size recipe in an 11 x 7 pan so it is thinner. Then I cut it in tiny pieces and wrap it in small packs.

This allows us to take out an assortment of desserts periodically. That way we do not have too much sitting around.

My dishwasher rarely gets used. But it smells sour even tho it’s practically brand new. I got the filter basket out and wiped it. It didn’t have any food it in. Then I ran the sanitize cycle. It was almost 2 hours long!

I’m still not happy with the smell. It’s less but I can’t leave it hang open a lot either.

Today, on Amazon, I found garbage disposal cleaner tablets and dishwasher cleaner tablets. A friend swears by the garbage disposal cleaner. I’m going to give them a try.

I rinse my dishes then wash and sanitize them in the dishwasher.

We always rinse dishes before loading the dishwasher, but residue collects in the drain trap. I'd liken it to hair, soap, toothpaste, etc. that collects in bathroom sink, shower, and tub traps.

I'm making turkey soup in the slow cooker today. The stock that I made last Friday is very flavorful and will make delicious soup with carrot, celery, onion, poultry seasoning, lots of leftover turkey meat, and egg noodles.

I made a second batch of white chocolate/dried cherry/pecan clusters. I divided them into four holiday tins for gift-giving. I don't think I'll be doing any more treat-making this season. I used to enjoy baking dozens of cookies, and I even made fruitcakes from scratch in years past, but I just don't have the energy or stamina to do these things any more.
