I just read an article about the best cheeseburgers in every US state.

The top cheeseburger joint in every state, according to Yelp.

It is dead on for Illinois and Wisconsin!

I so agree, Au Cheval is one of the best in Illinois. Hackney's is a close second. I worked there summers during college.

The absolute best recommendation is Kopps in Wisconsin. They have several locations in the Milwaukee area. Not only is it the best cheeseburger, but they are most famous for their frozen custard. Frozen custard is basically soft serve ice cream. Every day, they have vanilla and chocolate in addition to two special flavors. My very favorite special flavors are Butter Pecan and Heath Bar.

Has anyone tried the recommended cheeseburgers in any other state?
The Indiana cheeseburger is from Workingman’s Friend, which is truly a hole-in-the-wall dive. While I have never been there it is very, very popular.

I drive past it often, and the parking lot is always full.

It’s located near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and is a favorite for out of town race fans.

I’ve been to Kopp’s in Wisconsin for the custard. I like Kopp’s custard but there are a couple of Wisconsin custard places I like better, Murf’s and Bubba’s

As an outsider - for obvious geographical reasons, Australians don't do thanksgiving - I'm kind of bemused by the obsession with turkey. It's not a massive thing out here? I greatly prefer chicken. And we don't do it for Christmas, either. I know it's common to do a roast of some kind, but it's just as common for all the meats to be cold, and served with a variety of salads. When it can be 40c on Christmas day with a total fire ban stopping you using the barbeque outside, it makes sense to eat ham and coleslaw rather than turning the oven on and heating up the house even more just to have hot meat and hot roast potatoes.
as school children, we were taught that the pilgrims (early euro settlers) and the "Indians" (native Americans) had a big friendly feast in the fall to prepare for winter. There are wild turkeys around the US and many states do have turkey hunting season. At the time, they did not teach us that the settlers exposed the indigenous people to deadly diseases or thwarted their cultures, and forced them westward off their preferred lands. The Thanksgiving parable as a child, was one of nice food, sharing and peace on earth- except the turkey did perish for the betterment of mankind. The original 13 US colonies were in a northern, relatively cold area (no global warming then) so that is what we learned.
Later on with Miami, southern CA, etc., the whole myth and the prep for winter-well another thing that does not work. IMO. And if US Thanksgiving were in July, you can bet there would more BBQ, salad and less roasting.

Agree, but for the best custard, we need we also need to add Leon's!

I grew up in CT The winner is Shady Glen which I can attest to. I went to school with the now owner who inherited it from his father. They also have incredible ice cream.

True! I used to work frequently in Wisconsin and definitely did the frozen custard tour. Also the cheese curd tour, the supper club tour, and a few others.

That sounds like a fun tour.

I'd nominate Renards for Cheese Curds and Ishnala for the best Supper Club!

Cheese curd tour?!?! Cheeseburgers?! Talking my language... never been to any of those restaurants but I do love a good greasy spoon diner!

As a Canadian, I am obligated to mention poutine as it involves cheese curds and gravy :D Most people would suggest Smokes Our Menu | Poutine | Smoke’s Poutinerie but I think the best ones are from the souvlaki stand on a Saturday night after a few beers!

I've never been to Grey Ghost in Detroit, but local TV station WDIV has been doing a continuing feature to find the best burger in the D. Grey Ghost is among the best burgers on the Yelp list.

On the cheeseburger theme….

I thawed a pack of burgers and put them on my little grill. It is the perfect size for me.

Tired of Tday leftovers. I’ll have to freeze some of the veggies.

It’s going to be cold for SWFL the next 3 days. Figured today would be a good day to grill. I should have taken something else out to thaw so I’m not wasting coals.

I'm officially tired of holiday leftovers too. I made a pb&j sandwich for lunch, even though we still have t-day stuff in the fridge.

Tomorrow high for me will be 58. Last week my caregiver got out my warm nightgowns, sweats, and long sleeved shirts so I could grab easily. She was worried the cold would get here before she comes back tomorrow. (so grateful for her care)

Out in the back 40 as they say….. the new garden bed is ready. I have some garden mesh up but need to add more.

The transplanted blueberry bush seems happy.

After this cold front moves thru, I’m going to plant more veggies. I have little Brussels to move, new zucchini and new broccoli to get in the ground.

By Friday we’ll be back in the 80s, so I will put the new batch of sunflowers out front. The dark colors sprouted, the yellow ones did not.

The gardens are looking wonderful.

We planned the Thanksgiving food for leftovers on Friday. On Saturday we had a pot of pintos with cornbread and ham for a change. Today for lunch those will get finished and tonight will be pork chops with cheesey potatoes and summer squash from the freezer.

After eating up most of our Thanksgiving food, on Saturday night we had salmon, pasta, and salad. Last night I made a shepherd's pie using ground lamb, mashed potatoes, and vegetables. We'll have it again tonight, and I froze the rest for a future meal. I love having leftovers.

Yesterday I made Turkey Divan that also included some leftover chicken breast from a Costco rotisserie chicken that we had last week. Two large broccoli crowns, the turkey and chicken breasts, a combination of turkey and chicken stocks for the sauce that also included Pinconning cheese. Layered in large lasagna casserole pan, topped with Parmesan and panko. We each had a serving for dinner last night, and there is a lot left for a few more meals.

We got about 1.5" of snow yesterday, and it is dark, dreary, and very cold today with some flurries. A typical winter day in southeastern Michigan.

I have eaten at Our Place but it was a meat and three type meal that was very good. Our vet is located just around the corner from Our Place. We will have to stop and try the cheeseburgers. It’s really just a hole in the wall type place.

Our leftovers are finished so last night we brought home a world famous Lou Malnati’s Chicago deep dish pizza and Malnati salad with their house made creamy lemon garlic dressing.

So tonight we are having leftover pizza, but we reheat it in the oven and it tastes as good as it did last night.
