A different type of food contamination

STOUGHTON, Wis. (WFRV) – A Wisconsin-based pizza restaurant has issued an apology after it was discovered that some of the pizza served to customers was contaminated with THC.

Officials with Public Health Madison and Dane County stated in a news release that Famous Yeti’s Pizza in Stoughton had unintentionally served pizza contaminated with THC between Tuesday, Oct. 22, and Thursday, Oct. 24.

EMS workers in Stoughton had reportedly notified the public health department that they had transported multiple people with THC-related symptoms during that time, all of whom reported eating at Famous Yeti’s Pizza.
Good grief! What other type of food businesses there have a use for that type of oil??

Snip
Today it was confirmed that pizza had been sold with dough mistakenly prepared with Delta9 contaminated oil. The oil accidentally used in the product originated from a shared storage space in the on-site cooperative commercial kitchen.

Costco salmon recall

Another product sold at Costco has been recalled due to listeria concerns, the latest in a series of items flagged by the wholesale club over possible contamination by the potentially deadly bacteria in recent weeks.

Acme Smoked Fish has issued a voluntary recall of certain packages of Kirkland Smoke Salmon "out of an abundance of caution," according to a notice sent to Costco members who purchased the products. The recall is limited to packages marked with Lot number 8512801270

Also waffles and freeze dried meat

Enchiladas with canned chili are easy to make. I prefer flour tortillas. Spoon chili from the can onto tortilla as you would with any enchilada filling. Top with shredded cheese and other extras you might like: chopped onions, black olives, avocado or guacamole, chopped tomatoes, beans (if you're using chili without them), etc. Fold and roll like any other enchilada and line them up in a baking dish. Pour enchilada sauce (homemade or commercial) over the enchiladas and top with shredded cheese, if desired. Bake in 350* oven for 35-40 minutes. Serve with sour cream and/or guacamole or chopped avocado.
Haha (insert smiling but sweating emoji here), I’m sure it’s tasty, because you are an excellent cook, but it just sounds a bit too “foreign” for me, from what I’m used to, for lack of a better way to say it.

But that’s what’s great about this thread. We are from all areas around the world and backgrounds and can share our foods and recipes. I enjoy learning what others eat and cook. It’s so interesting.

And it’s such a nice break from the heavy threads on missing persons I generally frequent here at WS!
So ever since I saw all the enchilada posts, I was thinking I got to make enchiladas again, I seldom make them and they're so yummy. So I got some fresh chicken, hacked it up. Cooked that a bit on oiled pan, not fully. Then I tossed in a lil chicken broth, garlic powder, onion powder, s&p, diced onions, canned green chilis, cumin, ancho, chili powder, smoked paprika, lil cayenne, lotsa fresh cilantro. Lil Taco Bell seasoning powder. Let that all cook up together, most of the juices melted, so then warmed the flour tortillas right over the chicken mixture. Wrapped the filling into a few tortillas, I had like four in one casserole dish and four in the other casserole dish. So then poured on some canned green enchilada sauce, topped with Mexican cheese, into the oven 350 or so for like maybe 45 mins at most. Turned the oven off, let everything kinda melt in there for 20 mins, topped w/more cheese, fresh cilantro. I thought they were yummy, but a little on the sweet side (I wish I'd put lime juice into that chicken as cooking). My son loved them. Overall, happy with them. Enchiladas are awesome anytime, but especially (to me) this time of year. Yummy!!

This explains why only the Quarter Pounder sandwich seems to be affected.

According to the agency, the beef patties are used only for the Quarter Pounders, and the slivered onions are used primarily for the Quarter Pounder and not other items. Diced onions and other types of beef patties used at McDonald’s have not been implicated in this outbreak, the FDA said.

The Quarter Pounder is the only McDonald's burger made from fresh beef, every other beef burger is supplied frozen. Much more potential for bacterial infection with the fresh meat.

IMO, I'm not buying the onion excuse just yet..

In the days before Kamberlyn Bowler became ill, she went to McDonald’s several times for her favorite meal: a Quarter Pounder with cheese and extra pickles. The previously healthy, active 15-year-old is now hospitalized and battling kidney failure — a rare and potentially life-threatening complication of E. coli poisoning.

Kamberlyn, of Grand Junction, Colorado, is one of dozens of people who say they became sick after having eaten McDonald’s Quarter Pounders. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 75 people across 13 states have been infected with E. coli following meals at the fast-food chain. One person has died...

I thought it was odd that McDonald’s uses different onions for their Quarter Pounders than for their other sandwiches. Hamburgers, cheeseburgers, Big Macs, etc. all contain diced onions, but only the Quarter Pounder uses slivered onions.

The McDonald’s in my area are still serving Quarter Pounders with slivered onions, so I guess Indiana wasn’t included in the recall.

In this NBC video, the contaminated onions were distributed by Taylor Farms to McDonalds, including several airport locations, in Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas. A second map in the video indicates states with known illnesses due to McDonalds quarter pounders. I noticed that Indiana was not included. McDonalds will no longer get onions from Taylor Farms that was allegedly the source of the contaminated sliced onions.

Late yesterday we strolled thru the Moffitt cafeteria to entice me to eat. I found scalloped potatoes and mixed veggies. I ate my plate of veggies last night. They were so good.

Today we got another meal and the leg quarter for my daughter. I managed to eat the thick slice of rotisserie chicken along with a green bean and 2 sliced scalloped potatoes.

I had my milk & red jello so that was my menu today.

I packed my 7-Ups and some dry snacks like crackers and a banana, my chocolate milk too. I’m not sure what their plan is when I’m inpatient. Allegedly I’ll be too out of it from the treatment. So my safe food plan will have to be a collaboration with my daughter & the kitchen.

Yay, that looks great!! They used to joke about hospital food but I think the hospitals caught on and started actually making good food! That leg looks completely yummy! My mom was a nurse and even back a couple of decades, the hospital where she worked was trying to up their game on their meals.

A friend of mine just spent the night in a hospital somewhere in Los Angeles after a procedure and she reported her dinner was grilled salmon steak with artichoke cream sauce, asian coleslaw and vanilla ice cream. Not bad!

My dad always loved Stagg canned chili for when we were camping.

But at home he made an excellent Cincinnati-style chili that we loved. He piled spaghetti on plates and topped with chili, beans, diced onions, and shredded cheddar.

Growing up, it was like dueling chilis at our house. Our mom made Indiana-style chili soup with macaroni, also known as Hoosier Chili.

Hoosier Chili

Cook and stir 2 pounds lean ground beef, chopped onion, and chopped green pepper in a large heavy stock pan or soup pot. Stir and cook until beef is browned.

Stir in one can tomato juice, 4 cups water, 2 cans kidney beans (rinsed and drained) 2 cans chili beans, 1 can tomatoes, 4 tablespoons chili powder. Simmer at least an hour, preferably two hours. Add more water if it gets too thick.

About 20 minutes before serving, bring to a boil and stir in 8 ounces macaroni. Stir and cook until macaroni is soft, ladle into bowls and serve with crackers. Top with shredded cheddar and chopped green onions if desired.

Our mom simmered this chili soup all afternoon and it smelled wonderful throughout the house.
My ex's momma made chili like that! She was from northern Indiana. Being a Kentuckian I found the big red kidney beans in chili odd.

She always had a big pot on the stove simmering when oour arrival time was unknown.

Happy Halloween! What are your plans for the evening? We were tired of chicken meals (from a Costco rotisserie chicken) and had Jet's pizza with antipasto salad last night. We're not participating in trick-or-treat tonight because there haven't been enough kids coming through our sub. Last year, we might have had 15-20 trick-or-treaters and had a lot of leftover Pepperidge Farms mini bags of Goldfish Crackers. I think most kids are doing trunk-or-treat or going to parties, and trick-or-treating isn't as popular as it used to be.

DH and I both need labs for medical visits next week, so we're going to the lab before we go out for dinner. Maybe Dracula will do our blood draws :D We'll drop off a treat bag for the little girl next door before we leave. Turning off outdoor lights and bringing in "spider" decoration from porch. It's supposed to rain most of the day, so that will probably be a deterrent for trick-or-treat like last year when it snowed. Whatever your plans, have fun!

One of my friends was a nurse in a hospital in California where the cafeteria did not serve meat, not even to patients. Everything was vegetarian, but she said all the food was very good, and healthy.

Well, I didn’t have come up with a costume since being an inpatient with a mask & fuzzy slippers pretty much covers that. I had oatmeal with milk for breakfast yesterday. Then we went for my daily visit. No fever.

Got back to the unit and fell asleep for 30 min. Fever went to 101.0 and then 101.5 so I was admitted. I hadn’t eaten in about 36 hours so the dietitian stopped by. She told me if I didn’t want a meal, to order a tray of snacks to nibble on.

So I did. The piece of French toast was delicious. Then I ate most of my boiled egg. 2 grapes and 2 cheese cubes.

I left the house both yesterday and today. Most of you probably don't realise what a big deal that is for me.

Yesterday, we had to go to the chemist. Today was a wedding, an hour and a half drive each way.

Yesterday Me was smart enough to buy enough sushi rolls for two days. So I got home today, got back in my pyjamas, and ate sushi while decompressing.

Fresh salmon brown rice avocado, chicken teriyaki cucumber, tuna salad avocado brown rice, and spicy fresh salmon cucumber. I don't know if those have special names anywhere. I like lobster salad and soft shell crab, too, but they didn't have either of those when we ordered, because it was close to the end of the day.

I was working in southern Indiana today so I visited my favorite Amish restaurant for lunch. Homemade noodles, mashed potatoes, bread and celery dressing, green beans, corn, and a wonderful salad bar with excellent homemade dressings.

I’m working in Michigan the rest of the week so I’ll be enjoying Buddy’s pizza one day for lunch.

Have made this a couple of times now and it came out great, it's a really nice meatless meal. Didn't freeze too well though, cos of the potatoes.
