Changed my life when I discovered you could roast Brussels and cabbage. Grew up eating them boiled to mush.

I halve them, drizzle them with a little olive oil, them sprinkle them with stock powder and white pepper. I particularly like it when the outside gets a bit papery and crispy.
I buy frozen brussels and put them right on a sheet pan into the oven. Halfway through I put some olive oil, s&p, maybe some garlic powder until they get crispy and dark brown. It's one of the laziest ways to roast vegetables!

I've never had frozen, I don't think. I like the fresh, even raw. Love raw cabbage, too, and Tuscan kale. I don't like curly kale, though. It's a sensory no for me, texturally - it feels like shredded plastic in my mouth and my brain screams 'it's not food! Spit it out!'

I’m afraid that one of my favorite chain restaurants is in trouble. I love Ruby Tuesday’s salad bar, no matter which location I visit the restaurant and salad bar is always kept clean. Everything on the salad bar is always fresh.

The Ruby Tuesday locations near my home have closed. Today at a location I visited today in another city while traveling for work the server indicated they might not be open much longer.

I mentioned to the server that this location was always busy and she just said she wouldn’t be surprised if it closed.
I’ve always loved RT’s salad bar! Everything was always fresh and they have such a variety: You could always count on peas, beets, several kinds of cheeses, and just a huge variety of veggies. One of my favorite RT salads, was to add rye croutons and raisins on the lettuce, then top with the vinaigrette dressing. Seriously, how many salad bars regularly feature rye croutons?
It’s been years since I’ve lived near an RT. It’s too bad that they seem to be on the wane. Craving one of those great “garbage” salads right now…

Sounds like a plan. You seem very organized with a menu in place two weeks before Thanksgiving. We have no plans other than staying home, watching the Lions games, and enjoying the peace and quiet of a holiday without having to cook or entertain. Dinner for two (probably beef tenderloins with baked potatoes and a green veggie) with a nice bottle of wine will suit us just fine. DH had bronchitis that knocked him on his butt for more than two weeks, and I had an allergic reaction to new eye drops that caused burning, itching, swollen eyelids with bloodshot eyes, and constant watery eyes. We were both a mess for a couple of weeks and don't need additional stress right now. A very low-key holiday season is on tap for us this year.
We had this!! We had this as well. The watery eyes, one of us got bronchitis. I thought mine was more allergies, it was like a head cold/sinus infection, and yep, it was BAD, bad. Dunno if it was the same thing, but it involved a lot of the same stuff. And ours is gone, too, and hope it stays gone.

I don't think I ever had their salad bar, but it sounds awfully nice. There's a place in town here, like a local place, and it has a salad bar like the one you're describing. I think they make their own bread, which is awesome. They don't have the rye croutons, though, which sound incredibly cool.

I wish I lived close to Ruby Tuesday! I only find them occasionally when I travel for work.

They have a special offer right now for their salad bar. You can purchase a Garden Bar Pass for $39.99, and it is good for unlimited salad bar meals for 30 days. What a bargain! And so much variety at the salad bar you could have a different salad every meal.

I love roasted Brussels sprouts,too.

I learned that the Brussels sprouts of old actually were not as good as today’s. I’m sure the boiled-to-death cooking method didn’t help matters!

We can thank the Dutch farmers, from around the 1990s. So interesting.

“The companies grew them in test plots, and they did, in fact, find some that weren't as bitter. They cross-pollinated these old varieties with modern, high-yielding ones, trying to combine the best traits of old and new spruitjes. It took many years. But it worked. "From then on, the taste was much better. It really improved,"

I did much better adding to my menu this week. Cheerios and a banana each morning, apples with caramel dip for lunches. I am starting to feel better each day. The doctor is supposed to release me on Monday, get my central line removed and we can go home to Sarasota on Tuesday. I can tell you after 4+ weeks in Tampa, I'd never want to live here. I do not like big cities.

Last night I wanted a burger, which I ate but couldn't stomach the smell of the side salad. So tonight I wanted the same burger but this time with fries. I think I ate about 8 fries, out of a big paper dish of them. But my daughter and her friend who came to visit helped eat them.

The two of them walked to the convenience store and got me a bag of Tate's Bake Shop chocolate cookies. I wanted something sweet for a change. Now to have some milk and my bedtime meds.

I've been getting my 10 minutes of walking in most days which is helping too. I'm ready to go home. I'm not allowed to play in the dirt (gardening) due to soil bacteria. I'm in charge of watering. I guess I can't screw up holding the hose.

So both my girls and my friends are on notice that they'll be planting my garden. My Brussel sprouts did wonderful last year. So I'm excited to see how they do this year. I'm going to put in more bush green beans, more tomatoes and more sweet potatoes. I might try red potatoes again too. I'm not sure what else yet.

Fresh is always best but for practicality, I buy a lot of frozen veggies. Yes, I love a good coleslaw especially in the summer!

I didn't know there were different types of kale. Stands to reason  LOL! That would explain the bag of kale I bought that I thought might be rabbit food.

Okay, still thinking this through. I'm changing the apps, gonna keep the spinach salad but scratch the shrimp and do little pork meatballs instead, which look super cool. Lemme get recipe here:

Okay, so that's quick n easy. But now, ok, main=turkey breast, sides=mash, stuffing/dressing, succotash, creamed spinach, brussels n bacon, maybe glazed carrots, the creamed pearl onions, pasta salad, mac n cheese. I'm wondering if I should jettison the mac n cheese and do like a turkey Yorkshire pudding instead, which would be pretty cool. Dunno if I should cut some of those sides, not sure. Play it by ear. We eat all the leftovers, so that's probably gonna be ok, lol. Always day of something gets dropped off regardless...

Just checked to make sure I'm stocked for sugar and corn syrup, also garlic. I think I'm gonna do toasted pine nuts in my pasta saad.

Tuscan kale is also called black kale or cavolo nero. It has big long flat soft leaves shaped a bit like rabbit ears that are a very dark green, a lot closer to black than other leafy green varieties, hence the name.

Pink Fir Apples are my favourite potato to grow. They're little pink ones about the size and shape of a Kipfler, so they don't go very far but the flavour is awesome.

I have never enjoyed kale, I just know it's healthier than other leafy greens so I make myself buy it sometimes.

I like the mixed bags of baby potatoes that have small purple potatoes. They're fun to mash up! Never grown my own potatoes but wonder if I could sprout and plant the purple ones?

I've grown all kinds of colours. White, red, purple.

My favourite all round potato to grow and eat apart from Pink Fir Apples is Dutch Cream.

I've grown Purple Congo, another Kipfler shaped one with black skin and deep purple inside. I've grown a red skinned one called Brake Light.

I love growing them, though it's been a few years since I've done so. I love harvesting, it's like digging for treasure.

I accidentally planted Tuscan Kale once and didn't like the taste at all. Perhaps it's just that I'm used the the regular, "curly" kale that we usually get in the supermarkets here in the U.S. Supposedly, Tuscan Kale is very good for salads. Don't know...I sure didn't like it. I thought it had a very strong, off-putting taste. Have you tried that variety?

Can't stand the texture of curly kale in my mouth. It's a hard no for me.

I really like the taste of Tuscan kale, but I know some people really have trouble with strong bitter notes.

My hard nos are curly kale (texture), and spearmint and wasabi (both taste like cleaning products, not food, to me). Lemongrass can be like that, too, if it's too strong a note in a dish.

I had a lifelong dislike of eggs, that dated back to when I was a baby, but over the last few years I started not minding it so much and I'll actually eat it by choice, now. Every few years, I'd try them, but I didn't actually start not minding them until my mid to late thirties. Go figure.

It took some convincing from my son, but we all really like kale on homemade pizza now!

Yeah, I put kale or cabbage on my pizzas too.

I remember reading about 15 years ago that Pizza Hut was the largest user of kale in the country. That’s back when all the Pizza Hut restaurants had salad bars, and kale was used as a garnish between the salad bar items.

I just came back from Tampa, where we ate a Longhorn Steak House for the first time. I had their Strawberry & Pecan salad and it was the best salad I've ever had, lol. I keep thinking about it and want to go back! I tried to attach a pic from their menu but it's not loading.

Here is the description:
Farm fresh field greens topped with fresh cut strawberries, grapes, mandarin oranges, candied pecans, and feta. Served with a light raspberry vinaigrette.
