I bought zucchini and cheese and didn’t have time to make these. But they look and sound so good. I bet I could make them GF too.

I’m leaving for Savannah, GA tomorrow after my doctor’s appointment. I’m looking forward to my friends taking me to new restaurants that they’ve found. Stay tuned!

It’s a 5 hour drive from north Tampa but it will take me 6 hours with stops. I hope it’s a little cooler than here in Sarasota.

Safe travels and enjoy the holiday weekend with your friends.

Speaking of Labor Day weekend, anyone have special food plans? Our niece and her family are coming on Monday, and I've planned my menu that includes Tuscan grilled chicken, Greek potato salad, corn on the cob, peach cobbler with ice cream for dessert. Appetizers will be shrimp with homemade cocktail sauce and deviled eggs (unless I get too stressed), then Costco hummus with baby carrots and pita chips as an alternative. The weather is supposed to be very nice, so we can eat outdoors.

If you're traveling, be safe and have a fun holiday weekend with family and friends.

The menu sounds wonderful! We plan to eat out with some friends on Sunday evening but we haven't decided where to go yet. Enjoy your weekend!

That sounds AWESOME, seriously. And yay, hummus!

Soaking chickpeas right now for falafel! Got to get pita, though. And a fresh cucumber, and another bunch cilantro. I am so excited to be making more falafel, I'm going to go really heavy on the herbs this time, I want it really green.

Grateful for the reminder on the ice cream, have been saying for days I was going to get ice cream, and I keep forgetting it. Will get pistachio ice cream and chop up some pistachios in the falafel (correction, I had hummus here before/made that recently, but falafel is what I'm making tomorrow), and can use it for the ice cream too. Also grateful that I just remembered I need to pull the tahini from the fridge.

I've made my own hummus, but DH buys a huge tub of Basha hummus when he makes his monthly trip to Costco. It's actually very good and tastes homemade. I've never made falafel from scratch but have used boxed mixes that are definitely not a great substitute for the real thing. We don't fry anything, so I shape the falafel into patties and cook them in a skillet with olive oil.

I really want to make deviled eggs because I haven't made them in a long time, and everyone always likes them. I think I will cook the eggs today and assemble them tomorrow. I also plan to make the potato salad tomorrow along with homemade cocktail sauce for the chilled shrimp. I'll also make the marinade for the whole butterflied chicken and let it marinate overnight. If I try to do too many things at the same time, I get very anxious, so I try to pace myself and get as much done ahead of time as I possibly can. I changed my mind about dessert because making peach cobbler would probably be too stressful. Instead, we will have brownie sundaes with store-bought brownies, vanilla ice cream, and fresh strawberry garnish.

Oh darn, I was looking forward to the peach cobbler! But the brownie sundaes sound good too. :D

I'll make it for DH and I sometime soon. Michigan peaches are in season now. They're never as good as Georgia peaches, but I like to use locally grown produce whenever I can.

We went for Mexican Friday night and I can't say it was that great. Tonight we went to Sam Sneads and as usual it was delicious. Kristine had the fish and chips. Lordy it was huge, had fries and coleslaw with it.

I had the wonderful black bean soup with sour cream. Angel hair pasta with garlic sauce, tomatoes and chicken was so big I have lunch for tomorrow.

Am so glad I did a test batch of my falafel. I saw a couple of recipes saying yeah, good idea to get a little tahini in the actual falafel mix, so I did, and I found it to be just really bitter, the balls were better once they came fully to room temp, but I'm not doing the tahini actually "in" there again. I've now got the main bowl of mix chilling, and I did just sesame seeds instead of the tahini. And I used some jalapeno too, MUCH better.

The test batch on the actual texture was great. Nice and green, nice light interior, good crisp on the outside, I did them in the air fryer. But the tahini bitterness was not a good thing, jmo. Anyhoo, the new mix is nice, so will let that chill and fry'em up.

Weirdly as I was looking this issue up, I came across a recipe for tahini brownies that I'm going to try for sure, it looks really good.

MUCH better on the new mixture. Fried up a couple, they're good, the jalapenos-- I'm diggin that, lol.

I love tahini, so I figured I'd love it IN the actual mix, love the stuff in hummus. But after I did it, I looked the whole thing up again, I saw people still saying, yes, we like it this way, but also people saying no, that doesn't work. I like it better with just sesame seeds. Maybe I added too big a tahini dollop, though, dunno.

I'm feeling good about my food prep and shouldn't get too stressed when our guests arrive. I assembled the potato salad yesterday and only need to add the dressing and toss in a serving bowl. The deviled eggs turned out well, and I will garnish each with a little slice of avocado since my filling has mashed avocado. The chicken marinated overnight and should have great flavor. I still need to rinse and plate shrimp and make cocktail sauce. I'll cook corn while the chicken is on the grill. I'll make the brownie sundaes after we've cleaned up dinner dishes.

The weather has been perfect for this holiday weekend. Sunny with temps in the mid-70s. Nights have turned quite cool (40s) but we haven't turned the furnace on yet. It's supposed to get back into the 80s later in the week.

Have a nice Labor Day!

I haven’t posted much. Been very busy trying to pull off a surprise 80th birthday party for DH. And we did it. All 4 of our kids and their families came to town with the reason that it was Labor Day. The party was Saturday in our church fellowship hall. DH wasn’t surprised- he was shocked! I was beginning to worry that it was too much for him even though he is a very healthy 80 that looks and acts much younger. But he came around and we all had a good time.

My daughter and two of my daughters in law helped make all the food from scratch. It’s better and less expensive than store bought trays. I did buy a veggie and a meat and cheese tray, but we made the rest. We had velveeta with sausage and rotel dip, cocktail smokies in bbq sauce, ham and cheese sandwiches, buffalo chicken dip, cream cheese& chocolate chip cheese ball with chocolate graham crackers, roasted pecans, and sausage balls.I know I’m forgetting something but it was all good.

We had a great weekend. The last of the family has gone home. It’s awfully quiet here. Miss them already.

That does sound like a good deal. Is the special every Tuesday, or was it just for yesterday?

Today went to Bluffton SC. We hit 4 quilt shops, 2 that we had been to before. We had a delicious lunch at Craft Kitchen. I had the fish & fries, no coleslaw. I wasn’t sure about their coleslaw and it was mayo based. Ick.

This is where we ate the last time also. I loved their big chunks of fish sticks.

Thanks for sharing links for the restaurants you visit. I enjoy reading the menus.

I absolutely loathe mayo-based salad dressings for coleslaw, potato and/or pasta salads. Yuck! I prefer light dressings or vinaigrettes. The only creamy dressing I like is blue cheese.
