This is true. I too am not far from Manitowoc County and my impression whenever I have been in that area is that most think SA is guilty and do not want to hear any evidence to the contrary. However, in most of the area surrounding that county people are more open minded and willing to listen to reason. My take on this is that the residents of that area are, as another post above pointed out, afraid to speak out about what they truly believe. It is sad any way you reason it but one thing most people agree on is that their fears in regard to speaking out are not without basis--the corruption is real and the citizens know it. Most won't admit that out loud but they know it nonetheless.

That is pretty sad. I have noticed more and more locals on forums, and some on FB (although not as many because it's not as anonymous), all say close to the same thing. Thanks for the local perspective :)

Hum...never noticed this before....on 11/5/05, the day they found the RAV4....

"Upon walking away from that object, I did locate, what appeared to be, fresh blood in gravel. Medical Examiner Klaeser did arrive at my location and did confirm that he did believe it also to be blood". I informed Medical Examiner KLAESER I had some concerns due to the fact we did have a substantial amount of rain within the past couple of days and felt it to be very odd that this could possibly be blood from the case we were working on. CASO Reports, page 219.

To my understand, this location was found walking away from where the rag with the brownish red colored stain on it was found. IIRC, the rag was found in the quarry.. I found it, just a few minutes ago~~but I can't seem to find it again~~~Missy, you got this at your fingertips???

Just talking out loud here~~and of course, all JMHO~~~

Do you suppose the blood was taped to the RAV4, using the duct tape and the rag actually has SA's blood on it and when the blood was planted it dripped into the gravel by whoever was planting it? (BTW~I couldn't find where the rag was tested, thus I lost the document where the rag was found in the gravel...LOL)

Fresh blood, right after it rained on the day they found the Rav4, hum???

ya know... on page 220, he mentions evidence that he thought was a charred foot, but found it was insulation. Wasn't there insulation found in the firepit too? I mean.... how much insulation is hanging around partly burned, in the firepit, in the quarry? odd.

reading your post again.... HUH???? They had a Medical examiner at the quarry???? but not at the fire pit 'crime scene'????

you can't make this stuff up, seriously!

I don't think they did test it BCA, I am pretty sure the blood stain is the unidentified male DNA from the quarry though.

WOW...good memory!!!

Yes, according to to trial transcripts, page 3195...

Um, actually, um, in the container or the package labeled "bone fragments found north end of burn pile, south end of garage", no bone was found in that, uh -- associated with that evidence tag number. Simply lots and lots of what appeared to be insulation from what may have been wire that was no longer present.
Q Some burned metal wire?
A Well, the insula -- burned insulation, uh, kind of tubular thin insulation was --
Q Okay.
A -- in that container.

Remind me again? What day were the bones found?

November 8th BCA :)

So my poor hubby is trying to watch a movie and I asked him about the insulation... tubular burned insulation. He said there is no way there would be anything left of it if the fire was hot enough to burn her body in that manner. He's an electrician ;-) I will say JMO or JMHO (just my hubby's opinion) because I'm not going to look for links lol

I was trying to find it... but there was speculation about that rag. The chain of custody of the rag or something. I will do some looking :)

I have to agree, worked for an electrical contractor years ago...there is no way the insulation on a wire would still be there, not even in my campfire...LOL
The wire could be there, but no way the insulation would...

Tell the hubby, your friends at WS say Hi and Thank You.

So, let me get this straight...they had a ME there on the 5th when they thought they might find TH, but when they actually find her on the 8th, they don't call one and turn another away...

Actually ... nope, go back and look, the quarry find was on the 10th. Page 219.

I stand corrected.

Charles also, according to the filing, told police that he lived alone and saw no one on the night of Oct. 31, 2005, so was sans alibi, and “had a means to frame Steven.” After Steven cut his finger, the filing says, “Charles could have smeared Steven’s blood from a rag in Ms. Halbach’s car. He could have planted the key in Steven’s room. Getting rid of Steven would only improve Charles’ situation at Avery Salvage Yard.”

I thought that was an interesting article i read on the DB i just quoted from. Seems that SA thinks it could of been other members from his family that set him up for their own personal gain. Interesting. And here is another quote from the same article:

Avery’s court filing concluded with: “In sum, the court should have allowed Mr. Avery to introduce evidence and argue from that evidence that other persons could have been responsible for the murder of Ms. Halbach, namely Scott Tadych, Charles or Earl Avery, or Bobby Dassey.”

Seems like it was all about gain from their family business. So a win win for Manitowoc county & some members of the Avery family, IMO. Plenty of reason to set SA up and get rid of him if that's what they wanted to do, and poor Brendan. What a tangled web.

I believe that article is talking about this document:

Well... there is another Salvage yard that apparently has done quite well since all of this took place. It's called Cleveland Auto and Salvage... can probably find lots of info about that in the links in the new Ricky Hochstetler thread.

Tangled web indeed :)
