SS, I am a Notary in the State of Louisiana. I require picture ID to be shown when I notorize a paper. Our Louisiana Driver's License has our signature along with the picture. For those who do not drive, Louisiana has a personal ID that you can acquire at the DMV that has a picture and a signature also. I will not notorize anything without proper ID. Also, the person wanting a document notorized must bring two witnesses who attest to knowing this person with them. Two witnesses have to sign the document.
Also, I do not read the document I am notorizing for content. I only notorize the signing of the document. IF that person is using an alias with the proper identification and I have no way of knowing this, then I have no liability in notorizing the document. People who want to acquire a driver's license with an alias can always use a stolen identity to do so. As a driver's license is a state issued proper identification, I accept it in good faith that this is the person signing the document.
