The US Holocaust Museum wrote in a statement: '“Out of our memory and understanding we must forge an unshakable oath with all civilized people that never again will the world stand silent …”
'We mourn the passing of President Jimmy Carter, whose presidential commission recommended establishing our Museum.'..."

I hope they treat him respectfully.

He was so different from presidents today. He raised the money for his first presidential campaign not from big corporations and billionaires, but from the fans of The Allman Brothers Band.

A great president, especially outside of cultural issues. He was not like Bill Clinton, though. I wish the talking heads in the news media would stop saying it. Carter was not a centrist or conservative.

.
US president whose subsequent decades of tireless humanitarian work brought him the Nobel peace prize

Born in Plains, Georgia, Jimmy (James) was the eldest of four children of Lillian (nee Gordy), a nurse, and James Carter, a peanut farmer.

He planned a naval career, graduating from the US naval academy in 1946.
Then he became involved in the design and development of nuclear power for ships, and later with training seamen to serve in them.

In 1953, however, the death of his father obliged him to resign his commission to take control of the family business. This sparked an interest in politics and, in 1962, he was elected a state senator.

In the 1976 primaries he easily outpaced his Democratic rivals.
His arrival in the White House arose more through the quirks of the electoral college, where he predominated by 297 votes to Ford’s 240.

With his wife, Rosalynn (nee Smith), whom he married in 1946, he visited more than 140 countries.

He wrote 30 books, including A Call to Action (2014), which addressed discrimination and violence against women ..

He is survived by their four children, Amy, Jack, Chip and Jeff, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Are there any Rush fans here? Anyway, in the almost 5 years since we lost Neil Peart, I have never seen a negative comment or obituary about him, even if people prefaced this with things like "Their music makes me want to remove my auditory ossicles with a pickle fork." The respect given to Betty White was not far behind in its respectfulness.

I predict that people will give Jimmy Carter the same regards, even if they didn't agree with what he endorsed.

He was a good man. He selflessly gave of himself to others.

RIP, President Carter.

I'm sure that Rosalynn welcomed her beloved Jimmy with open arms. Rest in peace, President Carter.

I hope so. He was a good president during difficult times with problems he inherited and had few options for fixing.

Inflation had been rising since Nixon and Ford’s terms due to the Arab Oil Embargo. Iran applied more pressure by taking hostage the US Embassy staff, a common tactic being used in the ME at that time. Negotiations failed to produce results due to efforts of American operatives who negotiated a secret, separate agreement trading military weapons to Iran in exchange for hostages. The agreement was that Iran must promise not to release the hostages until after Reagan was elected.

Rest easy, President Carter. For me, I will always remember your character, grace, work and smile. Even after leaving office your work continued. You're a true American hero for the people.

Quote by President Carter:

"I have one life and one chance to make it count for something. I’m free to choose that something. … My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I can, whenever I can, for as long as I can.”

On his wife, Rosalynn:

"I’ve never won an argument with her; and the only times I thought I had I found out the argument wasn’t over yet."
