I doubt the French healthcare system would reimburse American tourists for the cost of their treatment in France. The reimbursement is for those who are paying tax in France, and for visitors from the EU, EEC, Switzerland, and UK, and who have the EHIC or GHIC card (are insured by a national health insurance provider in their home country). Visitors from outside the EU do need to have valid travel insurance.![]()

France currently operates on a reimbursement program. Therefore, you pay for the cost of your treatment and then apply for reimbursement. A regular doctor's visit is just 23 Euros and typically 70% of that cost will be returned to you.
