French police could use one of those bulletproof personnel carriers that lots of US police depts have, at this time. Taking shelter behind an ordinary vehicle won't provide much protection against the weapons the suspects have.

I'm afraid they are going to invade someone's home for shelter, and hold them hostage....

I suspect their aim is paradise, and they will want to take as many kuffār with them. :-(((

The former lawyer of the main suspect urges him to surrender.
The former lawyer of Cherif Kouachi called on his client to go to the police "to shed light on this case."
Vincent Ollivier who defended his client from 2005 to 2008 described him as a man "petrified at the idea of joining Syria" and who, at the time, did not match a terrorist profile.

Le Pointe is reporting (according to The Guardian) that a search of one suspect's browser history previously, revealed child . I can't confirm the original as Le Pointe has a paywall.

'As a teenager Kouachi was often in trouble with the police for a number of crimes. The most serious of which saw him imprisoned for three years in May 2008 after his involvement in the establishment of a network to send would-be Jihadis to Iraq.

In May 2010, police arrested Kouachi, Djamel Beghat and a number of other associates on suspicion of terrorist activity. The prosecution emphasised that Beghat had played an influential role in the radicalisation of Kouachi, who was characterised as a “pupil” who had gravitated towards Beghat.

Police raids at Kouachi’s home uncovered a number of Arabic texts, as well as videos of speeches from members of al-Qaida. Kouachi’s internet browsing history revealed a number of Islamic and Jihadi related sites, as well as child .'

Witness reports from Europe state the suspects, Said Kouachi and Cherif Kouachi, were holed up in L’Aisne, in north France, where they robbed a petrol station, stealing fuel and food.

The men escaped, and there are unconfirmed reports the gunmen are on their way back to Paris armed with two grenade launchers.

I lived in Geneva, Switzerland for 5 years and went to high school there moons ago. I consider myself an Europeanized American and I am truly heartbroken for my French friends.

I am so grateful to so many of you posting real time news, as here in the US it is difficult to get up to the minute reports. Listening to the French News, and switching my brain over to French, has brought back such fond memories. Vive La France. Je suis tres encole.

The best coverage is FranceTV, the english service seems to be normal news, but the French service is live updates. I'm clicking between the two. I can't get much real information either Zuri .. Twitter is not really updating on the scene info either.
