GUILTY France - Machine Gun attack on magazine Charlie Hebdo, 2015 *Appeal Trial 2022* #2

There are areas that are dangerous to go into alone, just waiting for someone to come along from the Marie de Paris to say that it's not true !

Isn't that the same in most cities, and many towns?

The French government has announced a plan to boost policing in 15 of the most crime-ridden parts of France in an effort to reassert state control over the country's so-called "no-go" zones: Muslim-dominated neighborhoods that are largely off limits to non-Muslims.

bbm Talking about this specifically, not just your run of the mill crime ridden areas. Note the dates on the articles, before the recent attack. eta

I wonder how that's working out for them? It doesn't seem to be going very well IMO.

My journey (at last) to Paris to arrive in daylight hours hasn't gone very well, as you can see from the photo. Car trouble. :( We only got as far as Metz, it's dark, and we are too tired to go further. Probably a good thing I hadn't managed to get around to booking somewhere to stay in Paris....

There is no snow and ice here, thank heavens. Tomorrow, I should make it to lay that bouquet, fingers crossed. I'm determined to do it.

Went out for a bite to eat and cut through a shopping mall. This was the first thing I saw on the doors.

Here we go. Lost already and I haven't even started my journey today. Maps never work for me.

Finally made it to Paris, though I spent half the journey trailing behind a snow plough in a snowstorm, which I didn't expect. Sun's out here though.

At last. I did it.

First I went to the Place de la Republique. Cold, but bathed in sunshine and surrounded by noise and life, and people reading the messages left. That seemed to be all about the courage of France. Its ability to go on, and grow stronger...

And then I walked a little, to find the Charlie Hebdo offices. It is away from all the hustle and bustle - just a nonedescript business district, with narrow strèets and high buildings.

The sense of sadness was great. There were just a few other people there, looking at the tributes. They are around the corner from the Charlie Hebdo offices. That little street is still closed off, with two police on guard, getting very cold. I thought; they must know, they'll have either nothing to do while on duty, or may find themselves facing fanatics with machine guns. Very brave, so I wished them a good evening.

I chose white roses to lay and am sorry the message isn't better written or more presentable. My hands were cold and I was a little lost for words. The roses were lovely though, even though they don't show well in the photo.

ETA:The note says deepest condolences, from zwie and friends.

I have one right now, left over from the breakfast I didn't have time to eat this morning.

For some reason, all the photos I'm posting are upsidedown. I'm having to edit them all.

Here is some of the graffitti from the wall above the tributes.

After laying the flowers, I walked along the street and turned right. And there was the place that officer Merabet was gunned down in cold blood. It's absolutely heartbreaking. Just a mountain of beautiful flowers and candles on that pavement between the parked cars and bushes,, with some lovely people keeping watch there, who asked me to say hello to all you guys thinking about them. So I have.

ETA: Trying to post a photo but having a few problems. Coming soon.

I think the bouquet saying from the United States must be the official one, from the embassy? It is very beautiful.

There was a lot of artwork by the Charlie Hebdo offices, as you can imagine. This is Paris, after all.

I'm saying goodbye to Paris tomorrow, after such a long journey. :(

I wish it well. It is still gorgeous and crazy and with such a wonderful mix of people. Long may it continue that way. There's no place for hatred here. The haters can't win.

I see ISIS extremists have posted a video of the execution of a Japanese hostage today. May he rest in peace. I don't believe they will.
