Serial killer's wife faces trial over 1990 murder of Joanna Parrish

The wife of a serial killer will be tried over her role in the murder of student Joanna Parrish.

More than 30 years since the murder of a student, a serial killer's wife will be tried for her role in the killing.

The body of Joanna Parrish, 20, from Newnham-on-Severn, in the Forest of Dean, was found in a river in Auxerre, France, in 1990.

She had been raped and strangled and Michel Fourniret confessed to the killing. He had been due to stand trial for her murder, but died in 2021.

Monique Olivier was his wife and will be tried in France on 15 November.

According to the Netflix documentary, the fact that Olivier was working alongside Fourniret resulted in many more victims.

“Because she was in the car [with Fourniret] victims were reassured,” Michelle Fines, the journalist and producer of the documentary, told the BBC in March.

“The parents of Joanna Parrish always wondered how it was possible that their daughter could go with a man. But when they knew there was a couple, they understood how it could have been possible.”

I have been trying to understand what pleasure she would derive from this. Fourniret is pretty straightforward.. Was it the hunt? Was it the level of power and control? - doing gods or the devils work perhaps.

Killing Hammiche seemed to set them up for life but they were killing before the castle purchase so it wasn't money that motivated this or kept her around.

Monique Olivier has been on trial since Tuesday 28 November for her involvement in the murders of Marie-Angèle Domèce, Joanna Parrish and Estelle Mouzin.

After the regrets of the day before, the admission of guilt today. On the second day of her trial for complicity in the disappearances of Marie-Angèle Domèce, Joanna Parrish and Estelle Mouzin, Monique Olivier admitted "all the facts" of which she is accused in these three cases.

When the hearing resumed on Wednesday afternoon, the president of the Hauts-de-Seine Assize Court questioned Monique Olivier about the facts of which she was accused, namely her involvement in the abduction and murder of Marie-Angèle Domece and Joanna Parrish and in the kidnapping and murder of Estelle Mouzin, as they had been presented the day before.


"Following my report yesterday, you had very few comments. I would like to ask you a question. What is your position on the three facts of which you are accused?" asked Didier Safar.

"I recognise all the facts, the three facts of which I am accused," the accused said, standing up in the box.

Olivier is formally in custody for the "kidnapping (and) illegal confinement" of 17-year-old Cecile Vallin and is being questioned by a specialist cold case unit, prosecutors in the Paris suburb of Nanterre told the AFP news agency.

Vallin was last seen around 6 p.m. on June 8, 1997, on a country road leading out of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, a small southern French town fewer than 20 miles from the Italian border.

Investigators resumed inquiries into whether Fourniret could have been responsible for the abduction after statements Olivier made in December last year, when she was on trial for helping Fourniret kidnap and murder three other girls.
