Trial for the murder of Lola: before the verdict, an elusive accused and a crime without explanation

After five days of trial and confrontations with the horror of the murder of Lola, 12 years old, the family lawyers called on Thursday to the happy memory of the child, for lack of response from the accused.
Verdict day, Friday, October 24, at the trial of the alleged murderer of little Lola and many questions are still outstanding. Tomorrow, the Advocate General will make his submissions, there will be the defense’s oral arguments and the Court will hear Dahbia Benkired one last time before retiring. The psychiatric question concerning the accused was at the heart of this week’s hearing. But Dahbia Benkired still has not revealed her secrets.

Troubled psychiatrists
This arrogant accused person disturbed the psychiatrists who met her: "She caused me a malaise that I have never experienced in my 15-year career, something harmful that takes you by the throat," says one of the experts. During the three interviews, she constantly manipulates doctors.

"She tried to lead us where she wanted, towards witchcraft for example," explains one of them before continuing: "she has a very strong desire for domination, very rare in a woman." A cold accused, described as narcissistic, who does not accept frustration and whom the psychiatrists themselves cannot completely decipher. Her statements are confused, she has no empathy or concern for the family," explains the expert.

"We will never know completely"

An analysis that resonates only a few hours before the verdict and while Dabhia Benkired has given no key to understanding her gesture. A week of debates, interrogations, hearings of witnesses and experts before the Paris Court of Assizes did not allow to explain the mysteries that cover these some 97 criminal minutes, on the afternoon of October 14, 2022.

On the outskirts of her building in the 19th district of Paris, which her parents are the guardians, Lola Daviet was accosted by Dahbia Benkired, who forced her into the apartment where she lived, stripped her, had her take a shower, raped, beaten, killed.

"A single question remains unresolved and contains within itself all the unbearable: why?" , questions Karine Bourdié, one of the family’s two lawyers, whose "role is to tell them: we will never know completely".
"I am saddened to see that, since the day one of this case, in the dock of the accused, nothing has advanced. I have no answer," continued the lawyer in front of Dahbia Benkired, who has shown the same impassive face since the opening of the debates last Friday, in unison with the indigence of her snippets of explanations.

"Jailed for life with no parole

An Algerian woman
found guilty of raping, torturing and murdering a 12-year-old girl in France
has been sentenced to life in prison with no parole.

Dahbia Benkired, 27,
was described as a 'monster devil' by the family of her victim Lola Daviet
as she received

the most severe sentence France can enforce

- making her the first woman in the country
to be handed the maximum penalty."
