The French Orthodox Jewish Sarah Halimi, 65, was killed on 4 April 2017 by Kobili Traore (then 27 years old), while he chanted verses from the Quran. He has been deemed not criminally responsible due to his mental state by a French court, and cannot stand trial in France.
The victim's sister is now seeking trial in Israel for the killing, as Israeli laws may apply to anti-Semitic crimes committed abroad.
