Tunisian-born Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a 31-year-old delivery driver described as a "weird loner", was reported to be a French passport holder who lived in the Riviera city and was regularly in trouble with the law.

...

Investigating sources said Bouhlel's last appearance in a criminal court was as recently as March, when he was found guilty of violent contact. Despite this, he had no known links with terrorism and was not under surveillance.

An investigating source said: "An operation is currently underway at the dead suspect’s home in Nice. It is being raided by officers."

Neighbours described him as a "very weird loner" and father of three who had recently become estranged from his wife and had become depressed following the breakdown of his marriage.

A woman living in the same shabby apartment block as Bouhel today told how he "seemed very weird". She told The Telegraph: "He lived alone. He said very little to anyone and wasn’t very polite. He wouldn’t hold the door open for you."

Following the attack, condolences have been pouring in from wold leaders, including Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, who made public his letter to French President Hollande. "It is with pain and sorrow that I must once again write and express my deepest condolences, and those of all the Israeli people, following the horrific terror attack in Nice," wrote Rivlin.

"The vile threat of terrorism is an affront to these values, and its perpetrators murder and maim indiscriminately in pursuit of their barbaric ideology of hate," added Rivlin. "Israel stands with France and the Israeli people stand with the French people, shoulder to shoulder in the face of this terrible evil, as should the whole free world. We must work united to reach the terrorists, their supporters and backers, wherever they may hide. We will never give up. As you said, we are stronger than the fanatics who seek to harm us."

I suggest to all, when linking to Sputnik News as a source, keep in mind that:

“Sputnik was launched on 10 November 2014 by Rossiya Segodnya, an agency wholly owned and operated by the Russian government, which was created by an Executive Order of the President of Russia on December 9, 2013.”

- Wikipedia

Thanks. Russia or the former USSR has always has government controlled news. Back when I was there in the 1980's it was called Pravda. Now it is called Sputnik. It is still a news agency.

Neighbours told the French television channel that he was not particularly interested in religion, adding that he preferred girls and salsa.

They said that he had been unhappy since he divorce, and that he suffered from financial problems. He was a delivery driver, but recently caused an accident after falling asleep at the wheel and was taken into custody.

He had several charges for violence, radicalisation and theft – but not terror offences.

Reminds one a lot of a similar attack with a truck in France last year when a man decapitated his boss and drove a van into a chemical plant.
The attack on the plant did not get far, so almost all attention went to his horrific act against the man who gave him a job.

I love how officials from Isreal tell it like it truly is. No skirting the issue. Not afraid they might offend someone.
"barbaric ideology of hate" is exactly the problem. Yet people like us pussy-foot around because we might offend someone that's goal in life is to kill us. These barbarians were easier to handle when they were grouped together in one region, attacking each other on a daily basis, for thousands of years. Now the mission is to spread worldwide, their ideology of hate.

I, also, think its important to note that President Rivlin does not blame or even mention Islam. Rather, he blames the fanatics with a barbaric ideology of hate.

It's not islam?

It's not islam?

Oh, the terrorists do it in the name of their perverse notion of Islam.
Radicals do not practice true religion, IMO.

If only that traffic cop (or whatever kind of officer it was) had asked to see the ice cream in the truck.

Not that I'm saying it's the cop's fault...no, it's not. It's the killer's fault (and anyone who encouraged him in acting on hate). I just wish the officer had said, "Let me look."

Sad day.

Nice Attack: Police challenged truck terrorist then let him park on prom for NINE hours

http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/689828/Nice-France-Terrorist-Ice-Cream-Nice-terror-Police-ISIS

Reports claim police allowed the killer to stay on the Promenade des Anglais because he told them he was delivering ice cream.

The roads had been shut from 3pm to prepare for the celebrations, so the killer got there early and waited.

No one thought that was ODD! Nine hours, who would sit there that long?

Not to mention...that does not look like a refrigerated truck to me.

More from Hollande:

“We have visited scores of injured, who have horrendous images in their heads. They are suffering more because of the psychological trauma. Even people who have no signs of physical injury, will carry throughout their lives the trauma of the horrific images they saw.

And he suggested that at least one policeman was killed in the attack:

“I have tears in my spirit about this young policeman who acted so that killer should be neutralised, and put an end to the carnage. The security services have answered all the demands and the calls upon them.
