Many who have learned of his disappearance are in shock.

His wife, Tracy Hansen, describes Pal’s sudden disappearance as completely out of character.

“Just lost. And this is really the first day I've really been back because we needed to get some stuff and the officer wanted to see it, and I just, I just miss him so much. Just scared,” Hansen said.

Hansen calls this time a nightmare.

She says the day Pal went missing started like any other.

Both were at the store when Pal said he needed to pick up some supplies.

When he didn’t return or answer calls a behavior unusual for him, concern grew.

This is very worrying.
Police found his van abandoned, with his phone still inside

Any locals ? What type of area is that where the shop is ?
Any ATM nearby ?
What about where the van was found ?

Surinder was last seen leaving Standard Sweets and Spices at Blackstone and Dakota around 11am Sunday the 22nd. His car was found at McKinley and Temperance at 11:30pm on 23rd:

The drive is ca. 15 mins from his shop

This is his Linkedin profile

It is not up to date but shows his cv and areas of expertise, which are useful to understand his business environment.

According to public records, Surinder Singh Pal lives in Clovis

4 mins drive away from where his van was found

So was he heading home ? Is the van functional ?

Surinder is a registered agent for 4 entities:

Blackstone and Dakota is not the nicest area. A lot of motels I wouldn't recommend staying at in the area. People stumbling around the streets at night. There's a big bank one block up the street. Standard Sweets and Spices is fairly well known though.

Temperance and McKinley is very different. Definitely out in the country more, although the farmland is rapidly getting developed. But that immediate area is homes and fields, basically.

Is there any possibility ICE picked him up and has detained him somewhere? There have been incidents at traffic stops all over the nation.

They have been active in the local area.

There is a detention center in Fresno. Local government representatives are allowed access to check on detainees.

It's basically on the edge of town and near a road that heads up into the mountains (that was my first thought). Clovis is generally safe, although there are increasing reports of gang activity (property crime in particular).

My first thought was that someone followed him from his store, thinking he had cash with him. Maybe knew where he lived? Knew it was close to an escape route out of town? It's definitely on the edge of the general Fresno area.

But why would they kill or kidnap him? I agree about the Blackstone and Dakota area, but he was surely familiar with it. I wonder if he carried a weapon?

As reported in the article you linked (thanks) ICE has been in fields were farmworkers are working (and here in the Midwest there have been some raids at food processing facilities). This man is a businessman, so I doubt he would have been caught up in something like that. ICE actually does have a public database of detainees if you know their country of origin (birth country). https://locator.ice.gov/odls/#/search He's not in there.

Not sure if this is him, I don't have a date of birth or home address in the court document, but this is interesting, an outcome on an immigration related appeal with the federal courts in CA (filed in San Francisco) in 2022 for someone with his name regarding their removal due to failure to meet the standards regarding amnesty. This statement was interesting "To the extent Pal argues that the agency erred in failing to address the threat to Pal from sources other than his ex-brother-in-law, we lack jurisdiction to consider this issue because Pal did not raise it before the IJ or the BIA and therefore failed toexhaust his administrative remedies."

AGAIN, could be someone with his name. Pal could be a common surname in his community.

Note: It took a few minutes to upload, but I was able to view the whole document and I don't have a justia membership or registration.

Here's an earlier case on the same or similar matter from 2013.

I’m glad he’s not in the ICE database. However I’m not as confident as you are that a businessman could not be taken by ICE, either on purpose or by mistake. The high daily arrest goals are a factor in my thinking, as are reports I’ve read, but I don’t want to turn this thread into an ICE/immigrant discussion. It’s just a concern I have personally, and a possibility I’ll keep in mind, so I’ll leave it at that.

Very good work also regarding the immigration appeal info, whether it’s him or not. My hat’s off to you! 😊

Is there some kind of connection? Fresno is not close to Marin County. Perhaps I’ve missed something. 😊

Their restaurant that is in the store was highlighted just this past February on a news feature called Dine and Dish on ABC30. Surinder and his wife are in the segment.

(The food looks delicious!)

I didn't mean to infer he wouldn't be taken because he was a businessman, but rather that he wouldn't have been caught up in the (article referenced) raids on farmhands. But I'm glad at least for now, that aspect has been ruled out as he's not listed as having been detained. Not sure if what I found will be useful since we're not sure it's him, but all the bits of info we can find and share that's possibly related is good, you never know what will be helpful to locate him. Thanks for your kind words.

I wondered this too. Or potentially vigilantes?

According to public records he was born in May 1970, not sure if that helps without the day.

On Wednesday - last week. CPD posted that Surinder is still missing.
