Pamela Hutchinson was a hat person.
Her cousin, Tabitha Lohr Stoops, remembers the 59-year-old wearing them on outings — in particular, a white woman’s boater hat with a black ribbon around it.
But now surveillance video shows the hat sitting on the head of the woman authorities say likely killed Hutchinson. The footage of Lois Ann Riess at an Ocala hotel April 6 shows the woman waiting at a counter with a hat like the one Hutchinson owned.

“For me to see this vile woman wearing my cousin’s hat after she murdered her was heartbreaking.”
Hutchinson was found April 9 in Room 404 at the Marine Village where she had planned to stay until at least Wednesday before deciding to stay an extra day.
By that time, according to the Sheriff’s Office timeline, Riess was long gone. Investigators tracked her to Refugio, Texas, driving Hutchinson’s stolen white 2005 Acura TL. Refugio is a small town about 40 miles north of Corpus Christi.
It’s unclear how or when Riess befriended Hutchinson, but the two were captured together on surveillance footage during daylight hours on April 5 drinking at the Smokin Oyster Brewery on Old San Carlos Boulevard, a short walk from the hotel.
Reid Freeman, the executive chef at the restaurant, said he believed they were there between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. and ran up a tab between $50 and $60.
“It was all in cash,” Freeman said.
Her whereabouts next came into focus at a Hilton Hotel in the Ocala area. Video from the hotel shows her pulling up in Hutchinson's Acura, walking through the lobby and up to the registration desk. The Sheriff's Office said Riess stayed at the hotel on April 6 and 7.
Pretending to be Hutchinson, Riess checked into a room and then withdrew $500 via an Ocala bank from Hutchinson’s account, authorities said.
The Acura was seen traveling west through Louisiana. An attempt to get $200 at a Louisiana gas station failed, authorities said.
Authorities are concerned Riess could flee to Mexico because of her stop in Texas. Refugio is a few hours from the Mexican border.
"Mexican authorities are aware at the border," said Tony Schall, a spokesman for the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
"She would have to show ID," he said, and investigators have issued an alert for Hutchinson's ID.
Even with the alert, Schall said there was not 100 percent certainty she would be detained if she tried to cross the border.
John Kinsey, deputy U.S. marshal in Florida, confirmed that billboards are going up in Texas, New Mexico, California and Arizona in hopes of generating tips.
"We don't know when or where," Kinsey said. "But there is a template."
Sightings of Riess have been reported but not confirmed.
The Lee Sheriff's Office said there was no confirmation in one such case, that of a woman who robbed a bank in Pasadena, California, on Saturday. That woman was described as having gray hair, 50 to 60 years old, around 6 feet* tall and 180 pounds. Riess is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 164 pounds with brown eyes and was last seen with light blond hair.
Kinsey said there was "zero" chance the Pasadena robber was Riess.
Do we know how tall she is?
There was woman that robbed a bank, saying she had a bomb in Pasadena, CA last week.
