A man and two women in Georgia were arrested last week after authorities found a 3-year-old near death from ingesting a fatal amount of fentanyl and a 1-year-old who appeared to have been burned with a grill and was drinking from a bottle filled with live maggots. Matthew Moss and Talethea Browman, the children’s parents, along with Aisha Bartley, were taken into custody on Friday and charged with a spate of felonies, jail records reviewed by Law&Crime show.

According to an incident report obtained by The Augusta Press, deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Medical Services personnel on the night of Aug. 17 responded to a call in reference to an unresponsive 3-year-old girl at a residence located in the 2100 block of Howard Drive in Augusta. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders located the 3-year-old in a “semi-lucid and semi-conscious” state and dosed the child with NARCAN, a drug that rapidly reverses opioid overdoses.

The child was then transported to the hospital where she was reportedly given a second dose of NARCAN and admitted to the facility in critical condition. A test of the child’s urine and blood came up positive for fentanyl, Atlanta ABC affiliate WSB-TV reported.

While authorities were still at the home, a sheriff’s deputy discovered a 1-year-old child who appeared to have sustained burns to his back, arms, and hands, per WSB.

“Deputies and EMS observed [the child] had visible burns on his arms and hands, as well as his back that were in a distinct pattern (Such as an iron or grill pan/grate),” police reportedly wrote.

The 1-year-old was also transported to the hospital for treatment where the medical staff reportedly found “live maggots” in the bottle from which the child had been drinking.

May these sweet babies know love and healing, and grow up to be healthy, loving adults.

As for the adults, I hope they have to get treatment, do some time, and have to work for the rest of their lives to make restitution (from a safe distance).

An 8-year-old and a 5-month-old were also taken from the home.

In addition, Aisha Bartley, 31, was charged with child cruelty and four charges for possession of heroin, cocaine, Oxycodone and synthetic narcotics (fentanyl).

An investigation into a separate home where the family resided on Wheeler Road showed horrible conditions. The home was found in horrible condition with holes in the floor, no usable toilets, a running metal fan with no safety guard, food infested with insects, exposed energized wires, and buckets of human excrement. There was drug paraphernalia throughout the residence. Two meth pipes were found in Moss’ vehicle, authorities said.

In addition, there were a large quantity of hazardous chemicals next to the open baby formula, stained mattresses and no suitable area for the children to sleep. The kitchen was covered in roaches. Dirty diapers and human fecal matter were found throughout both buildings.

She said she’s just happy the kids are getting some help.

“My main concern was for the child that was unresponsive, because I want her to get the help she needed,” she said. “And it did kind of concern me when I saw the marks on the other baby of what might’ve been going on with it as well. So I just wanted them to get the help they needed.”

The three suspects are being held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. The case remains under investigation.

I am so glad four children have been removed to safety.

There are people who would love to have these children and take good care of them. If I had it my way, the perps should have their parental rights severed today. There is no benefit to these babies to seeing the abusers ever again.

I just don't think I can read one more report of such child abuse. It's beyond what my heart and mind can take. (I guess I can't follow this forum any longer).
Agreed. I actually felt physically ill reading this report. Once the nausea passed, the sadness set in. This is just horrible. Unfathomable.
