Announced criminal charges against six officers after the arrest of two Atlanta college students during the city's curfew crackdown Saturday.

The victims, 20-year-old Spelman College student Taniyah Pilgrim and 22-year-old Morehouse College student Messiah Young, were near downtown Atlanta when they were confronted by the group of police officers.

Howard announced that six officers will be charged in the case. Officers Ivory Streeter and Mark Gardner, both of whom were fired following the incident, are charged with aggravated assault. Streeter faces an additional charge of pointing or aiming a gun at Messiah Young.

Howard has also charged Officer Lonnie Hood with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of simple battery; Officer Willie Sauls with aggravated assault and criminal damage to property; Officer E. Armond Jones with aggravated battery and pointing or aiming a gun; and Officer F. Ronald Claud with criminal damage to property.

Interesting that the young adults in the car are immediately characterized as "college students" and the selective, private liberal arts schools they attend are named.

What is wrong with all these cops? 5 of them are black! I hope I'm wrong but it is just out of hand.

'I thought I might be killed' - college student recalls traumatic encounter with Atlanta police - KTVZ

Taniyah Pilgrim says she feared she might not survive when police used a Taser on her friend Messiah Young and pulled Pilgrim from a vehicle the pair were riding in during street protests in Atlanta on Saturday.

“I thought I might be killed,” she said. “Nothing really warranted it … After I realized none of this really had a reason, I was just thinking, OK, this is the end.”

Video shows officers in downtown Atlanta breaking windows on a vehicle, yanking a woman out of the car and tasing a man. The vehicle’s occupants were later identified as Pilgrim and Young — students at Spelman and Morehouse colleges, both historically black schools.

They were on their way home from picking up food when they got caught in traffic downtown.

“It’s probably one of the hardest moments that I’ve had to face in my life. I just can’t even fathom what happened. At this point, I’m just so far gone, it’s like I’m trying to remove myself from that situation, but it’s really hard to cope with,” said Young.

He says he hasn’t yet watched video of the incident. “I have not tried to relive that moment at this point. It’s a little too much right now. And I’d rather just, you know, recover honestly.”

His wrist is injured and he has about 20 stitches in his forearm along with bruises all over his ribs, Young said.

Pilgrim said the effect of the incident has been traumatizing.

“I haven’t even processed the situation and everything that happened,” she said. “I don’t want this to continue to happen and have more victims who are traumatized that can’t sleep, can’t eat. I don’t want that for anyone else. This is disgusting. This isn’t right,” she added.

“I just was shell-shocked. I’ve seen the situation so many times, you know. We have George Floyd, we have so many people dying and it’s just senseless.

Posting this link as we may want to follow this case about these 2 taser firing Atlanta cops wanting their jobs back. We have already discussed it because of the taser/deadly force issue. So one to watch IMO.

Where it stands: Pilgrim and Young appeared publicly in February to provide an update on the case, after a personal meeting with Wilis.

As with the Brooks case, Willis has sought to recuse herself from prosecuting

L. Chris Stewart, an Atlanta attorney who was part of the legal team for Floyd's family in Minneapolis, has called for a special prosecutor to be named.
