I think the negative, scary ruminations of misinformation are, in a strange way, comforting to some.

Forgive this analogy, but it suddenly reminds me of cotton candy - how vendors at fairs swirl around the paper cone in the circular machine and the cotton candy builds up until it's a big fluffy mass. That amassed swirl of cotton candy is like misinformation spiraling in the brain. The pink candy might be tempting, but it's full of nothing and isn't real food.

(I know that's a silly comparison.)

I don't think its a silly comparison at all. I think its an excellent analogy.

In my personal experience those who absorb this misinformation seem to be bolstered by it; it makes them feel special. included. Its like a weird kind of high. They laugh and roll their eyes, stomp their feet, shake their heads at anyone who disagrees or even offers a more thoughtful, careful, gently spoken alternate view or opinion. Who wants to make this kind of person upset? Not me! My daughter says they are brainwashed and it scares them and makes them feel uncomfortable and angry when someone confronts them with truth and facts.

We're in a serious crisis right now and it's escalating. Scientists and doctors are leaving the US because of this sort of thing. No one wants to be villified or gunned down for doing their job. Other countries are offering amazing salary and relocation packages to US-trained healthcare workers and I have many friends and colleagues leaving/have already left. I get these at least once or twice a week, from New Zealand or Canada or Scotland. Everyday people won't feel it for a year or two, but if this continues, it will change the American healthcare system for the worst because it'll be a shortage of unprecedented degree.

This is one shooter. But he's been bolstered by thousands or millions of others who fed him lies before he ever got to this point. The true tragedy is that many of those individuals knew they were lies when they did it. These lies are destroying healthcare, and people won't see how bad it is until it's too late.

This is very disturbing and needs to change:

“It also remained unclear who owned the guns used in the attack. An ATF spokesperson said federal law prevented the agency from releasing crime gun trace information to the public, only to the requesting law enforcement agency. ATF also does not maintain a registry of gun owners.”

So ATF thinks they can cover up information about who was legally responsible for giving military grade automatic weapons to this evil paranoid maniac.

I didn't read it that way. FWIW, I read it as ATF as an organization provides that information to LE, not to public inquiries, including from reporters.

Just like a cellphone company won't release customer records, but will if LE goes through the steps to obtain the info.

Upcoming presser today (Tues, Aug 12, 10am).

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will hold a news conference Tuesday regarding Friday’s shooting that targeted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Officials will speak at 10 a.m. at GBI headquarters in DeKalb County. The GBI will be joined by leaders from Atlanta police, DeKalb police, Emory University police, the FBI and US Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the CDC.

This is exactly why conspiracy theories and misinformation are dangerous.

"A union representing workers at the CDC said the incident was not random and “compounds months of mistreatment, neglect, and vilification that CDC staff have endured.” It demanded federal officials condemn vaccine misinformation, saying it was putting scientists at risk."

Not sure why Kennedy should show up after a mentally ill person shots up cdc building within hours.
Where were the complains when it took 3 weeks for Buttigieg to show up in east palestine after train derailment.

Jmo
I recall complaints about the federal response to the train derailment.

But to go into that would derail this thread and distract from the topic that a man who believed misinformation about the vaccine and who then shot at an agency that falls under the leadership of RFK, Jr.

CDC shooter had 5 guns, died by suicide, officials say in news conference

White, who had no known criminal history, broke into his father’s gun safe to retrieve five firearms that were brought to the shooting, according to Hosey. Officials found more than 500 shell casings, and nearly 200 rounds hit six buildings on the CDC’s campus, shattering windows.

GBI Director Chris Hosey said the suspect, 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White, shot and killed himself. The organization will soon release his photo.

Snipped.

According to 911 call logs, police were called to White’s home in Kennesaw 11 times between June 2024 and August, at least two of which were for suicidal threats.

DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose was fatally shot during the attack. U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., CDC Director Susan Monarez, and HHS Deputy Secretary Jim O’Neill toured the campus Monday, viewing the damage and meeting with Rose’s widow.

Well,
If one can easily break into it
Then it surely isn't a "safe"

I'm sure the parents are devastated and I feel for them during this horrible time. My comment is not directed at them as they don't need my comments.

But, in, general, if you have a suicidal person in your household, get rid of the guns. My opinion, which I'm sure is not shared by everyone.
