Identified! GA - Allatoona Lake, 55-65, Male, found in lake w/ anchor & shot in the head, Sept 2018 - George Madden III

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA / ACCESSWIRE / June 14, 2023 / Identifinders International LLC in conjunction with the Bartow County Sheriff's Office, Georgia, announces the identification of Allatoona Lake "John Doe" as George F. Madden III.
Mr. Madden was a resident of Columbia, South Carolina at the time he was reported missing in October of 2019. He was identified using forensic genetic genealogy (FGG) based on a sample of his hair. The identification was later confirmed through his dental records. In August 2018, the remains of an unidentified male were found in Lake Allatoona, near Cartersville, Georgia. He had suffered a single gunshot wound and carried no identification. A fingerprint comparison and facial recognition analysis by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation failed to identify the man now known to be Madden.
Sheriff Clark Millsap said, "We are very thankful for the assistance Identifinders International LLC was able to provide in our investigation, allowing us to identify Mr. Madden. Without their assistance, we would not be able to provide closure for his family". "We are pleased to assist the Bartow County Sheriff's Office on this difficult case", said Dr. Colleen Fitzpatrick, President of Identifinders International. "The case demonstrates the persistence that can be required for obtaining DNA samples suitable for FGG. Once the data was available, Senior Forensic Genealogist Linda Doyle quickly identified Mr. Madden". According to Sheriff Millsap, further investigation and interviews with family members has concluded this case. It is believed that Mr. Madden died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and there will be no further criminal investigation.

It’s possible they have information regarding his state of mind that would support that conclusion that’s not been made public. Unfortunately, a college classmate’s father died by suicide in a similar fashion a few years ago, so I don’t find it so odd. Basically, if you want to carry out such an act, this is a way to ensure that your loved ones will not have to find you—or possibly anyone.
