I saw a very interesting TV show (show name unknown) about 6-ish years ago. It was one of those true story crime shows. This particular episode was about a case that I am really curious to know the outcome of.

Synopsis: A young girl (maybe 10?) was found murdered in a ditch or field. At first, a young boy neighbor was interrogated, and after a while of being questioned, he confessed to murdering the child. The girl's father was furious at the boy and even before his confession, he suspected he was the culprit. After some time, another neighbor revealed to his mother that he in fact was the one who killed her, not the boy who confessed. The boy who claimed he killed he was mentally challenged. He told his mother what he had done, and the mother and him went to the police to share the story. Then, months later, he said that he may have just dreamt the killing, and that he may not have done it. The mother wanted to believe her son was innocent, and of course like most mothers would, she said he'd never do such a thing...at least she'd hope. The father of the murdered victim (I forget her name but Jessica rings a bell) felt guilty for blaming the initial boy, who was later freed from jail. The father went on to write a book called "Why People Confess to Crimes They Did Not Commit". The father believed that the initial boy was pressured by the police to confess. He then was unsure who the real murderer was.

I forget the name of the episode but "Dream Killer" or something along those lines sound like it could be it.

Does anyone recognize this story? I'm sure I have some of the info wrong. It is hard to remember every detail, so many years later. But I really wanted to hear the outcome....if they ever found the true murderer, or if the boy who had special needs was in fact found to be guilty. I have googled the case, but I didn't look extremely hard. If anyone recognizes it, just let me know!

i like to know as well, so the young girl was around 10. What did the little girl look like her description like her hair ect.

She may have been even younger, 5-11 I'd say. I don't remember what she looked like. They had her reenacted but I think the actress who played her was blonde. The guy who went to jail first was pale with light brown hair and thin. The second guy who confessed was heavyset with dark brown hair.

IT sounds to me like a story about a girl from the trailer park. I don't know what that rings a bell but it does. The confession the mentally challenged boy...
I have to think. But I think jessie or jennie or something like that too.

Also, I vaguely remember her living in a trailer park. When she was found, they made mention of her zipper. Either it was zipped up all the way or unzipped. They did not think she was raped. I believe they did a rape test. I could be mistaken, but there may have been a bike involved too.

I just went online to find an update, and there really isn't any. They still don't know who did it. The sister committed suicide a couple yrs ago. The dad asked that the article be removed though, and it seems like he wants this case private. I just learned that. So I guess I should delete this post. ??

No. There was an entire Dateline episode about the case, and there are many articles on the Internet about it. I think the father just didn't want an article about the sister's suicide.

Still No Suspect in Amy Yates Case

Six years later, Carroll County investigators are still trying to figure out who killed Amy Yates. The 8-year-old disappeared in 2004, while riding her bike to her friend's house. Yates was later found strangled in a ditch. Friday, the charges were dismissed against one of the young men who allegedly confessed to the crime.

Seems like it is likely still open to me too. Such a bizarre tale. It just proves that people confess to crimes they didn't commit. Or maybe they both had something to do with it. Not suggesting they did, but at this point there's no good leads on the case, and the case may never be solved. I don't think there was any DNA found on the girl. I could be wrong though.

Another tragedy for the Yates family, and as of 2013, the murder was unsolved.

Murder victim's sister commits suicide

Danielle Yates was 7 when her sister, 8-year-old Amy, was found murdered after going out to ride her bicycle in the Carrollton trailer park where her family lived. A teenage neighbor, Johnathan Adams, was convicted of her death in 2005. However, he was exonerated after the confession of a mentally disabled teen, Chris Gossett, nearly two years after the crime.

Charges against Gossett were dropped in 2010 and the crime remains unsolved.

I wonder if the bike had fingerprints or DNA on it. Or if there were any other murders or missing people cases surrounding that date, in that area.
