Wise Old Owl, I think it was mom and sister (not Aunt) who were charged with throwing the Gun in the pond.

 • #542
The ballistics must have come back quickly matching that gun to that first robbery as well as Antonio.

Glad to see all of them off the streets and locked up - hopefully for a long long long long time.

JMHO
Very confusing - was it linked to the previous robbery? This article came after the indictments, I believe.

"Doering said the gun is being tested to see if it can be linked to the child's slaying."

Wait - sister? Sister of who? DE? So that would be mom and daughter (if she is DE's sister) or is she mom's sister? That would make her DE's aunt. That was the impression I had - that she is mom's sister and therefore DE's aunt.

I think Mom and her sister (the aunt) are being charged with lying.

Mom and her daughter (DE's sister) were charged with getting rid of the gun.

That's how I'm understanding it anyway.

DE's sister is Sabrina I think.

Yep- you're right. Just went back and looked. I didn't realize a third woman had been arrested.

Mom is charged with lying and possession of the firearm and disposal

Aunt is charged with lying

And a "Sabrina" is charged with disposal of the firearm.

Ok - who is SE? Is she DE's sister and therefore mom's daughter? Wasn't there one other woman who said DE had been with her that morning as well - and her name was Sabrina?

So, its the two males and now 3 females charged in all this.

Unfortunately, these "ladies" will be out of prison before long. They will continue to "live" as they have lived till now, maybe bring a few more children into the world.

Very little chance that they will ever have a job, parent their offspring, or bring anything positive into this world.

 • #547
And Antonio's mom's psychiatric records are pertinent to all this HOW??? :furious:

True example of an attorney grabbing at straws. Well, hopefully a judge will say that you take your victims as you find them, and you don't get to discredit your second robbery/shooting victim because of her history of mental & parenting issues after you SHOOT HER BABY IN THE FACE because that's how you roll.

I need someone to hold MY hair, now!

Unless the aunt is wearing a grandys shirt as a fashion statement, I'd have to guess she has/had a job. While I don't agree with moms parenting style, it's obvious from her actions she cares for her child and is making an attempt at being a mother, although not mother of the year. Where the few more children comes from I don't know. Do we know if the aunt has any for her to bring a few more?
Not defending their actions, <modsnip>

Even though at first they lied to police to protect their kin, I do consider their actions of telling the truth about the location of the gun as "something positive".

Wise Old Owl, Sabrina is sister to DE and daughter of Karimah. 3 boys were involved with the March 11 shooting, but only 2 (DE & DL) with the baby shooting.

Police have NOT identified the other two with the March 11 shooting but they have charge DE in both incidents.

I'm baffled by Sherry asking her daughter about the insurance money. The daughter said her mother has mental problems and left her when she was 8, her other son was killed after starting a knife fight. To me, there are not a lot of Harriets and nary an Ozzie on either side of this story.

How do we know the daughter is even credible? Anyone can say anything. maybe she hates her Mother, has her own agenda. Why be "baffled?" <modsnip> relatives seem to have given the police all they need to solve this horrific crime.

And even if the Mother is not "harriet"....that in NO WAY excuses, or prettys-up or makes anything HUMAN out of these <modsnip>. There is no way that dirtying up the Mother helps these Two...they shot a BABY in a stroller!

SO Karimah (Elkin's mother) lied about alibi during the time she was in custody for other matters.

Katrina (Elkin's aunt) lied about alibi

Karimah and Sabrina (Elkin's sister, who was on the news talking about how she knew her brother would never shoot a baby, he loves children, etc) actually physically dumped the murder weapon into the pond.

Lovely.

reminded of something attorney Gough said yesterday about the women's arrests for falsifying alibis

“In these situations that are so highly charged, it’s not unusual for people to shift things in favor of their loved ones,’’ Gough said.

I wonder if he still stands by this statement? Just curious.

BBM You mean the one where he said he's 1000 percent sure that DE is innocent? :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh:

How can this attorney be taken seriously ever again? I know I would be rolling laughing at this guy. Well, I guess he laughs all the way to the bank - lawyers......................................

I doubt he does. This is going to be an unpopular viewpoint, but I feel a bit sorry for the defense attorney. Bear in mind that he wasn't there when the crime took place, so when his client swears blind that he's an innocent little lamb and tells him a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 and bull story, unlike the rest of us he is constitutionally barred from calling BS. He is legally bound to believe his client and put up the best defense possible under the assumption that his client is telling the truth.

That's the nature of an adversarial justice system, and IMO this PD was just trying to do his job. Its not his fault his client turned out to be a lying sociopath with a family of lying sociopaths on top of all that. He's probably sitting somewhere with his head in his hands now, nursing a stiff drink.

BBM. And what if his next client is innocent?

Btw, I don't think public defenders really laugh all the way to the bank. They mostly don't earn much above minimum wage. This guy isn't Jose Baez.

Considering that this defense lawyer most likely didn't even have discovery at the time, what business did he have making statements about his client being 1000 % not guilty? What did he base it on? The fact that aunt was claiming that she cooked him breakfast? It was bizarre.

 • #556
Cappucino, that's a good point about PDs not making that much. And he was probably hoping that maybe DE's mom & aunt were credible and there was a chance it would all come down to Sherry's word vs. the perps. And hopefully with the new revelations of evidence and other crime(s) that he is encouraging his client to take a plea. LWOP would be nice, but I would take 120 years before possibility of parole. (That was sarasm, btw.)

Georgia does still have the death penalty, but I really don't see it being given to a 17 year old regardless of how much he might deserve it.

Oh, I get what you're saying. I really do. I do.

Its just he had absolutely no reason to go "on the record" in front of the media and make that 1000 percent claim. No reason to. And he obviously said that without having any discovery on this case at all.

As for PD's not making a whole lot - well, in this economy what they make is still quite a cut above what the regular joe does. Plus, being the PD's office opens them up to the political arena in that, maybe, with some backing, they will be able to run for judge (or other political offices) down the road.

Nope, sorry. This guy had no reason to make that nonsensical claim of 1000 percent to the media. None. He was bloviating and look where it got him. He should have had "no comment" until he at least got the initial discovery and this grand jury report.

No where in America can ANY state sentence a defendant who was under 18 years of age at the time of their crime to death. No matter if they are tried as an adult and the state has the death penalty.

Roper v Simmons
