GA - Apalachee High School shooting, 4 dead, 9 injured, Winder, Barrow County - 04 September 2024 *father and son arrested* #2

*insert long litany of swear words* As a mom who has had to take her now adult son to inpatient several times, I feel so much rage at the father. When your kid needs help, you go...right now. Given how few beds there are for adolescent mental health inpatient, if there is a bed available and waiting for your kid you RUN there--you've been given a blessing. And if your kid is actually asking to go to inpatient, you go right then no matter what. Kids generally don't ask to go to inpatient just for funsies--it's unpleasant as all heck, and teens know that from peers and media.

No gas or no money for gas--bet if he'd called the grandparents, they would have Venmo'd him the $$. Bet he could have found something in house to sell on Facebook Marketplace to get some quick cash. Clearly he somehow got gas sometime between that day and the shooting and still didn't take his kid.
Maybe could have sold that gunsight he bought? Apparently he had plenty of money for gun paraphernalia.

*Colt Gray, 14, and his father Colin Gray, 54, are both behind bars in connection with a deadly rampage inside a north Georgia high school. After being read his rights, the teen reportedly told investigators, “I did it.” His father was arrested for allowing his son to have easy access to a gun. The father reportedly gave Gray an AR-style rifle for Christmas. Two teachers and two students died at Apalachee High School in Winder on September 4. Nine others were wounded

Prosecutors and defense attorneys said Tuesday they were working on a non-negotiated plea deal for the teen accused of the Apalachee High School shooting.

If a deal is reached, it would mean an admission of guilt from Colt Gray, with the judge then deciding the sentencing. It was discussed during a status hearing held Tuesday morning.

However, in court documents obtained by 11Alive on Monday, the judge has ruled that jury selection will take place in Hall County, using Hall County jurors. Meanwhile, the trial will remain in Barrow County.

"Barrow County will be responsible for all related costs incurred by Hall County," the motion states.

Explaining the decision in the court order, the judge said that Hall County was physically far enough away from Barrow County that jurors would be less likely to have a bias, but the proximity of the two courthouses was close enough that the trial could be held in Barrow to avoid “causing additional undue burden.”
