NEW: GA v Colin Gray - The jury deliberated for approximately ONE hour today and went home. Deliberations resume tomorrow morning at 8:30am.
OMG... This guy is a piece of... Work. I do not believe a word that comes out of his mouth - he didn't know? Are you freakin' kidding me? How could you not know? The kid was a complete FANBOY of school shooters! He had photos on his wall!
He even screamed "I knew it" when he was told! His son murdered 4 people, injured 9 others, and left a community reeling... All done by his son with the gun HE BOUGHT HIM AND HAD TOTAL ACCESS TO!
He is absolutly guilty!!
I have no idea what the jury could be debating... But, this man really needs prison time for his role in this horrible crime!
Mom needs to serve time for her inertia, too. How was she not also charged? No, she didn't supply the gun - but she was also fully aware of what direction Colt was headed into. She even fed his obsession by encouraging they watch the docudramas together. Sure she was a drug fiend with mental issues of her own - but she is of normal intelligence, maybe even above normal (and I'm qualified to assess that, I interact with parents on the daily, most with much less intelligence than Colin Gray). She has some culpability here. They both deserve to serve time!OMG... This guy is a piece of... Work. I do not believe a word that comes out of his mouth - he didn't know? She also didn't provide the weapon, unlike his father.Mom did not have any legal custody and they wanted her to testify against Dad. I assume those reasons are why she was not charged.
Definitely negligent in failing to have him medically evaluated and treated, and criminally negligent, in my opinion, for medicating him with medication prescribed to her. Agreed she does not carry the same burden as dad does with providing the assault weapon. She's an almost 20 year criminal, if she doesn't turn her life around, she'll eventually get what she deserves anyway, I guess...Absolutely no reaction from Colin Gray!
Thank you, jurors.
I think he's looking at a life sentence, basically.
Mom is no culpable. Dad was pitting mom against the son and she was alienated from Colt. She did not have custody. She wasn't in the home. She did not have a car. She had to ask permission from Dad to visit her kids. She had her own issues and was trying to get back on her feet. She was a neglectful mother, no doubt about that. But she was not responsible for the series of events/inactions that led to this tragedy. Not in the same way Dad was.
My husband is also an educator, here in a somewhat rural Georgia county. He's dealt with some absolutely infuriating issues with regard to parents "connecting" with their kids via eyebrow raising ways, as well as flat out negligence where weapons are concerned. A lot of lockdowns, even in our small area, and it's gotten so commonplace. So grateful the jury saw this man as more than a bad father - he was so guilty and, frankly, he was at fault and just ignored the problem... As mom said "he just didn't want to deal with it."
It is about time the law really looks at what role parents have when their dependent child commits heinous crimes - as an educator who deals with emotionally disturbed kids, there are some parents who are culpable in certain crimes. Believe me, I could tell you a few stories where my jaw dropped in meetings with parents who supply their very disturbed child with knives and guns - all to "connect with them!" It is extremely frightening, believe me.
Not every parent is going to be guilty according to the law, but I am grateful the authorities got involved in this case. It was extremely clear this man was guilty of so much more than child negligence... I mean, seriously, he bought him an automatic weapon. He will, hopefully, have a long time to think about how he was a part of the murder of 4 people and the injury of many more - physically and mentally!
