This was the second body found at that location within a period of 25 days. Both died by drowning but, the detective at the time found it suspicious. The wedding band Doe had false teeth and a cut on his chin and busted lip.

Is there any information on the rental tagged trousers? Where they were rented from or a name associated with who rented them?

  • #4
There were no records of his fingerprints on local, state and federal levels. He was buried as nameless in a local cemetery.

He had a six-inch-long scar on the inner calf of his left leg and upper and lower dental plates,

Not that I could find. Nor any mention if the wedding band had any names engraved.

I looked up "Master Service Rental" and it's a company from Jacksonville, Florida. There's a notice of public action sale of seized property dated Feb, 1970.

So Georgia and Florida are neighboring states...this auction sale would line up with the time frame.

Unfortunately there are no names associated to the company on Sunbiz.org.
There is also no MPs matching the JD description and time frame.

Below is a list of the property being auctioned:

DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY 2-Prosperity Model 219 PO Topper Presses, Serial Nos. 147061 and 147131, 1-American Model Pants Legger; 1-American ALU 46 Press, Serial No. 628M3231870; 1-Ajax Automatic Topper, Model DIF, Serial No.

AA12658655; 1-5HP Westinghouse Air Compressor tank, Serial No. 22820; 1--36 x18" American Washer, Serial No. 079M23829; 1-30" American Extractor, Serial No. 356ZIM3611.

Is this machinery for dry cleaning or pants manufacturing?

I've worked places before where some (or all) of my clothing requirement was "uniform" and provided. This man was in white on white on white - only thing not white were his socks, which would not be so easily "seen". I'm wondering if he was in a job where all white attire was required and perhaps provided. Catering, cook, maybe something like that (?) ... maybe even Navy (or former) with white clothing and crew cut.

on the whole possible "uniform" thing in my post below yours - I then remembered when I volunteered in a local hospital that the people who worked in the laundry area for the hospital also wore white/white, and I remember seeing delivery drivers for rental uniform type places wearing the same kind of attire. Given the equipment you mention above, could be possibly connected with that as well.

The article I saw on the 1st gentleman - he was identified as being out of Chattanooga, TN, and his suitcase and other items were located in the creek beside him. I believe I read they thought robbery might be the motive. (later edit: newspaper shows him as 180th homicide of the year, murdered and robbed. FYI - he was a Navy veteran.)

It would help if we could find what type of business it was. There are no other mentions to "Master Service Rental" besides the Doe trousers and the public auction.
I did find the tax records for the business but the 1970 and 1974 are not available online, although they are listed in the Duval County site.
The Doe could be just an employee or the business owner... or anyone unrelated to the business. But, it's interesting that, 8 months prior to this Doe being found, the company property was being auctioned for tax evasion.

Yeah... 180 homicides in 10 months. :(
If we count our Doe, 181...
