Softail, the police are not denying it, but refusing to confirm it...semantics/SOP for FBI/GBI, imo..

F/GBI have protocols in random kidnappings and I don't believe they involve ever entertaining ransom demands. Although Im sure they are monitoring closely all communications with those involved at this time. I wonder why the family felt the need to go public with the ransom demand? I have even seen a few websites publicly raising money to meet the ransom. Who is behind these websites? The family? Hmmm I done know I go mixed feelings about this case currently.

Is the publicity helping or hurting the investigation?

This was a home invasion/robbery that turned into a ransom kidnapping.

Do they still currently believe the family was selected randomly?

Totally disagree. Taking a dog to a vet is not unresolvable thing to do. Some people have actually died trying to save their dogs.

I would probably fall into the latter category of someone who would do anything to get my dog to the vet if critically injured.......UNLESS my child was on the verge of being critically injured and needed my attention. That's the point that baffles. But it's here nor there until we know for sure, if any family member, took the dog to the vet. If it's your second cousin and they say ' what can i do to help ' and you say ' hey run fido to the vet', then that's totally understandable.

Ok I'm just throwing this out there and you can slam me if you want and Nursie's right here so it will be swift ........ I love my dogs. I LOVE MY DOGS. But I'm not sure if I would rush my dog to the vet after it's shot when two armed , masked gunmen just ran out of the house with my child. I'm not sure if that's a reasonable thing or not. Thoughts ?

I hear ya. I don't think it has been verified as to who actually took the dog to the Vet. It has been reported on one link from a friend that Ayvani loved animals. Perhaps she was very attached to the dog and witnessed the dog being shot. I guess if I was a Family member it would be something constructive I could do.

Totally disagree. Taking a dog to a vet is not unresolvable thing to do. Some people have actually died trying to save their dogs. For instance, I know of a story where dog went into water, owners jump after the dog, owners drown, dogs turns up safe.
So some people would risk their lives for the dog. How is taking dog to a vet unreasonable?

I don't think is unreasonable....just considering the circumstances, you might be thinking of your child before your dog.

If your dog and your child were both drowning and you could only save one, most people would choose their child (unless the child is a teenager, then they would choose the dog.....Just kidding, sorry).

Do we know if they shot the dog just because or was the dog biting or barking at them and they were trying to prevent it ? tia

One of the reports I read early in said they shot the dog due to barking. At this point I pray for a presser to clear up even some minor reports in the media.

Is this the family home?

If so, it doesn't appear (outwardly) they have money.

Wonder why them?

In wayyyy behind and will try and catch up on the thread and stop asking so many questions. I have been following the case in the last 24 though.

Sounds more and more like this family was targeted. They may have owed on a debt. Those kidnappers were probably sent to collect the debt. You can't pay, they take your children. Just my opinion.

Not saying this is a case of credit card debt. Just using this as an example. Credit card companies try to scare people with this tactic of threatening to take your child, your house, your car, or any personal belongings because they think it will scare people into paying their debts.

No, credit card companies do not do that. Unscrupulous collection agencies may, but one complaint to the police will take care of that threat.

IF this is a genuine crime, it's tied to the mother's drug arrests ... and whatever the (where is he?) father's history. I refuse to believe that daddy is squeaky-clean and married to a drug-seller.

But this one smells to high heaven, and that ransom (whatever it is) could easily have been paid by the FBI or LE. The fact that LE is sitting back and watching the family try to come up with money, should be a big clue that they suspect something "internal" here.

It has been reported that the Family does not know the perps. I did see one raising money (FB) who claimed she didn't know the Family but wanted to help by raising money. Not the way to go about it. I hope this person has good intentions.

Foxfire----thanks for the sketch artist info! I guess I have just never seen police sketches of such high quality before. First time for everything! I also assume not every police sketch artist is super skilled or not every witness can provide a lot of detail.

YW, watchful_eye.. The technology has been available for ten years now. The first one I saw was about 4 years ago. I could never ID someone from the old pencil sketches, but I could now since they are virtual photos..

I had the opportunity to sit in on a class by Diana Trepkov; Forensic Art Postmortem Drawings, at a CUE Missing/murdered persons conference. Very interesting experience..

I very much doubt that the mother took the dog to the vet herself as she would been much occupied with talking with LE. As for why the family spoke out about the ransom demand, it seems that it was not the immediate family who did so.

Concerning the drug trafficking charges against the mother, if this family was targeted for drug debt then IMO the whole scenario becomes a lot grimmer. WSB radio just reported that the drug trafficking charge involved several hundred pounds of marijuana with a street value of $300,000. (!!)

I also wondered if they only moved in a month ago, could the perps have been targeting the PREVIOUS residents?

It's a possibility that the dog was taken to the vet not by the family, but by LE hoping to extract forensic evidence. There's the bullet, and possibly DNA if the dog nipped one of them.

I'm on the fence with the drug trafficking charge. As somebody upthread pointed out there is a female with same name presently incarcerated. I don't have a link.

It was reported yesterday that Mom fainted a few times and was hospitalized. I cant see her being in any shape to drive the dog to the Vet or even considering it. I'm sure somebody helped out with that. Poor doggy.
