Identified! GA - Bremen, LIVING Hispanic Male Child, 2-3, Sept'05 - Marc Griffith

Weird. Wonder what in the heck happened?

Aw...thank you for posting this. I'm glad she came forward to claim him...now I wanna know wtf she was on to leave her son on the side of a road.

We'll probably never know why this toddler was left by the side of the road as now it's basically with Childrens Services and their records are usually confidential. I doubt if the MSM will pick up on this, which would be the only possible way we'd find out, and that would only be if some type of charges were brought against the mom.

Whatever the reason, at least the authorities now know 'who' he is and the mystery of him being where he was will be answered to those who need to know. Thank goodness.

What an adorable child. Bless him.

My point EXACTLY. I hope CPS has enough brains not to give this kid back to her. I can't think of anything remotely close to a good reason for leaving a child sitting on the side of the road.

Well I can think of one good reason she could have left - to keep him safe. Maybe a husband or boyfriend was hurting him, maybe she had thoughts of hurting him herself; obviously for this to work she'd have to not know where to turn to when she needed help. (Possibly she's not even the one who left him) I know, I have a soft heart; of course CPS should do a very detailed investigation.

But why by the side of a road where he could wander out into the road and get hit? Why not where someone would find him right away but where he would be safe until that happens? Thank God he was spotted and picked up by some safe people. I would like to know what was going through that mom's head too. I too hope CPS does a through investigation before handing the little guy back to mom. If she needs some type of help or a safe place they can help her get those needs filled.

I have a soft heart also, but when it comes to something like this I don't budge on the way I feel. She could've left him somewhere way safer then the side of the road in the middle of the night.

The Associated Press - CARROLLTON, Ga.

A Columbus woman was charged with cruelty to children Tuesday in the case of her 2-year-old son found abandoned by the side of a Carroll County road in September.

Martha Velazquez, 23, who came forward during the first week of October, was arrested in Columbus with the assistance of police there, Carroll County sheriff's Investigator Marc Griffith said.

The toddler was found by motorists from Bremen about a half-mile from Interstate 20 on Sept. 11, in good condition, fully clothed and covered in a bed sheet.

Investigators received no reports of a missing child and could only estimate the boy's age between 2 and 3.

The child remains in foster care under the supervision of juvenile court. Griffith said Velazquez must file the appropriate papers through juvenile court before she can regain custody.

Thank god, it doesn't sound like she's getting a slap on the wrist.
