‘Sad ending’: Missing Cobb couple in Craigslist case feared dead

...The missing couple’s 2003 GMC Envoy was found about midday in a lake south of McRae.

The identities of the bodies, those of a white man and woman found on land some distance from the SUV, had not been confirmed by Monday night....

... A man in custody in connection with the disappearance, Ronnie “Jay” Towns, 28, lived half a dozen or so miles south of McRae off U.S. 441.

The bodies were found not far from there, in the general vicinity of Old Prison Camp Road amid woods and farmland. The area lies about 40 miles east of Interstate 75 and about that far south of Dublin and I-16 ..

Please........he did not do this on his own-he was the left holding the bag. Crime begets crime and criminals run in packs. I daresay he was in debt to someone over something and the evil plot developed.

I am thinking this stupid idiot was a drug fiend and over his head. Just my opinion and it doesn't let him off unless he snitches and goes under witness protection.

I'm curious if they were found North of McRae, near the airport. Google maps had traffic marked as red in that area all morning.

It gets dark early. So this means the couple had plans on getting a hotel or they both felt comfortable driving 180 miles at night. Either way; I think this guy purposely had set it up to where they could only meet at that time of the day. He preyed upon this couple from answering their ad to arranging the time and place. Plus since Mr Brunion may have been an impulse buyer; I bet his wife really didnt want to really go that late and that far. So sad. You tell your wife that everything will be okay and then some young punk comes along and ruins everything and everybody. My condolences.

Age 28 for a man: wants to get married-or so sunk in vice he goes off the rails.

This guy had everything going for him-handsome, beautiful wife, beautiful child, secure roof over his head, God's land to enjoy nature.........good family. What the heck happened last year or 2 in his life to be involved in this mess. Is living in the country or a small town so boring that drama must take over?

I think meth dealers or gambling debts or some other scandal made him vulnerable-maybe they threatened his family.
Or is he a Lone Wolf with societal problems from day one? A lot for LE to sort out and I imagine many a scared person in that county.

He looks jacked up in the eyes. Probably drugs, yes. Cold eyes, imo. Evil or drugs....or both.
I feel terrible for his family.
I am one of those people who has looked into the eyes of my adult child and failed to recognize the person I raised in there anywhere. Its a terrible and frightening experience. Drugs destroy the person that was....totally takes them over. Everything they have been taught or cared about is crushed. Heartbreaking on so many levels.
Fortunately, our son was able to get out of that lifestyle but it took many years. He did not kill another person or commit horrible crimes. For that I am grateful.

My prayers are not only with the Runions but with the Towns. God bless that dad. I think he played a large part in finding his son and getting him in to the authorities. I know the Sheriff said that the Towns are a good family. My heart is broken for both of these families tonight. None of them will ever be the same.

beautiful post Shefner, sorry for your troubles, glad he/she recovered, not all are that fortunate and some parents dont let themselves see the truth then it's too late, have seen such, so sad, yes I feel for ALL the families in this situation, even RT....even if he does look like a weasel, but I feel too much, I wish I didnt' sometimes, but prayers to them all! .

Looks like Old Prison Camp Rd is also Hwy 237.

IF the pond on Webb Cemetery Rd across from the Towns property is where the car was found, and IF the Runions were found in this vicinity of Old Prison Camp Rd...

Oh Lord this is absolutely tragic.

What did he think he had to gain by the fact that they were driving from SO far away? Or did it not occur to him that there could possibly be any link whatsoever to him? Idiot, mongrel, worthless garbage who just robbed so many people of loving family members, all for money that he would've (had he gotten away with it undetected...) spent on what, drugs? a new truck? downpayment on a little house he would have to live in with a wife and visiting relatives who never knew how much evil was contained in him? I absolutely, positively, do not understand this raised-heart-rate, "my lucky break!", manner of evil.

One of the most absolutely heartbreaking cases I've read on WS. The thought of Bud dreaming of a certain boyhood car for decades. His sweetheart going along with him for the ride through pretty countryside to finally get it.

gracehatter, it may be. Seems like I read or heard they met at a store too, and it's logical that a meeting place would have been established. I didn't know if it was only speculation that they were found behind a store or if it had been reported -- that's what I was trying to clarify.

Me too. Can't get it off my mind. It is so hard to comprehend evil. As a woman of faith, I can honestly say I will never understand this tragedy this side of heaven. Those poor girls, to loose both parents at once. And to have to wonder what they went through.
