Wondering where Carmine Baffa is? Still sitting in the Gwinnett County Jail.

He has an excellent and very well known attorney in Atlanta, Drew Findling, according to some news quotes on the internet. (You can easily find Mr. Findling on the internet and his firm’s website appears to show he has been on Fox News numerous times).

I have heard trials can take a long time, but often wonder why such long delays when a person is to be guaranteed a speedy trial according to the Sixth Amendment. I can only assume with a top-notch attorney and the Sixth Amendment right to a speedy trial that possibly the defense wants things to drag things on for a longer time. What would the prosecution gain by delaying for this long and would they be able to drag this out legally? Maybe the courts are just over-loaded or this case is quite complicated with various counties/jurisdictions involved?

I hope the trial comes sooner rather than later. As time goes on people want to move on with their lives – whether it is the defendant or the alleged victims. If a defendant is innocent they do not want to sit in jail for something they haven’t done. If they are guilty, the victims want justice and would rather have him locked up in prison for a long time instead of sitting in a county jail without being convicted wondering when they will have the chance to testify against him.

Welcome, Junkly!! I too have a hard time with some of the cases which just drag on and on. I watch a lot of child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 cases and the "turn-around" seems to be 1-3 years from arrest to trial. That seems like an awful long time for an innocent person to just sit and an ungodly amount of time for a victim's life to be put on hold, if they're guilty.

Children grow up, people move, people die. I do know that the defense has to willingly give up their right to speedy trial and undoubtedly, sometimes, it must be helpful to their case. Very confusing and something I did not know before coming to WS.

Again, welcome!! Please let us know if you see any updates.

Update on Carmine Baffa: On Friday morning (2/10/12) at the Gwinnett County Courthouse in Lawrenceville, GA, Carmine Baffa plead guilty to a plea bargain between himself and the 3 GA counties that had charges against him. He will serve 25 years (15 minimum and 10 on probation) and will have to register as a sex offender. He will be transferring to the GA prison system soon enough!!!
