Sadly this isn't that shocking. I have to pray for his safety, though, and for all of the other candidates. NOT TO MENTION, of course, the agents and officers whose job it is to stand in front of the bullet, whose lives are just as precious.

Knowing one of them, I have to believe that their dedication and valor can stand up to two boys, not yet old enough to drink, with sawed off shotguns. They are the best of the best. They know what they are up against, and these two punks are the bottom of the barrell. I'd bet the REAL threats never even make the news.

Please, God, protect them.

Daniel Cowart, one of the two men arrested Friday in an alleged plot to assassinate Barack Obama and murder more than 100 people, was a member of a racist skinhead group formed earlier this year. The group, the Supreme White Alliance (SWA), posted a note after the arrests saying that a “probate” member — clearly Cowart, although the site didn’t mention his name — had been booted out some time ago.
Cowart, in fact, is described as “member #3” of the SWA on the group’s Ning site. In “Daniel Cowart’s Supreme White Alliance page,” Cowart describes himself as “easy going and easy to get along with, as long as you are White!” In addition, a photo obtained by the Southern Poverty Law Center shows Cowart at a birthday party held for Adolf Hitler last April along with others linked to the SWA. The group is displaying a birthday cake marked with its SWA acronym.

This goes beyond Obama the plan was to kill 80 plus black students and if they had succeeded Obama was to be icing on the cake in killing Obama. I am so glad this plot was tharwted. I am not an Obama supporter but for God's sake, this is a sick group and I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. It is shameful these groups still exist in this day and age. I am glad Obama has extra SS, but what about this innocent students to be targeted just because of the color of their skin.

I am not niave to believe racism does not exist, but I hope LE in all cities go after these Skinhead, and do not allow them to harm anyone. Thank God to ATF for uncovering this plot and I am sure there are many plots being uncovered and investigated that we are not even aware of.

Thank you for clarifying this-but here is the thing with me...it could just have easily been a plot to assassinate a female candidate or a Jewish candidate...like any group they are trying to use the current climate to draw attention to their ideas...as incredibly archaic as those might be. In this particular case, what will the fall out be once the voter stands in the booth and tries to pick a candidate? Will they choose the one least likely to be assassinated?

Please, vote your conscience-if you can, please vote based on something other than the color of skin or the sex of the candidate...

Those 2 half cocked individuals met together over the web. One is a Jew so i'm not sure how he can be a skinhead. Schlesselman is a Jewish name. He would never be allowed into any aryan gang. The other one Cowart; i have no idea. Thank God the ATF among others are on top of things.

These days it seems like people don't need an excuse to try to kill someone. People are killed because some don't like the way they drive or over things they said. So in a country where race was a major issue less than 50 years ago, yes there are going to be some who haven't moved away from the old days. Yeah, I have been expecting it and I don't think this will be the last attempt.

Obama is not the only target either. Palin is too. Because this isn't a political issue, and really not a race/gender issue. The two are going to be targets just because they are "different." As long as there has been a country, the president has been a white man, usually over 50 years of age. So Obama has a different color of skin and Palin is a different gender and someone will hate that they may be given positions of power.

I agree. This not a race issue..........it is a power issue. These people believe it gives them power.

The threats from the black community if Obama doesn't win is as racist as it gets. The Black Panthers, SDS, The Weather Underground, all of these groups were just as racist as the others, but did not come under the same scrutiny as some of the other groups.

The leaders in these groups are now professors in our colleges (God forbid) and were given a free pass on their terrorist activities of my era. It appears, only certain groups are held accountable.

Man pleads guilty in plot to go on 'killing spree' against blacks

...Cowart pleaded guilty Monday to threatening to kill and inflict bodily harm upon a presidential candidate, conspiracy, intentional damage to religious property, discharge of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and multiple gun charges related to carrying a sawed-off shotgun across state lines.

Cowart's co-conspirator Schlesselman pleaded guilty in January to conspiracy, threatening to kill and inflict bodily harm upon a presidential candidate and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. He is scheduled to be sentenced April 15 and faces up to 10 years in prison.

Cowart faces up to 75 years in prison under his plea agreement, the Justice Department said.

10 years for one of the guys is waaaayyy to little punishment here. The 75 years is more like it, IMO.

If it were me in charge, I'd be sure that neither of these guys walk the streets again. :furious:

(CNN) -- An Arkansas man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Thursday for plotting to kill dozens of blacks, including then-Sen. Barack Obama, federal authorities said.

Paul Schlesselman pleaded guilty in January and was sentenced in an Arkansas federal court Thursday.

Federal officials said Schlesselman had threatened to kill Obama on October 23, 2008, shortly before the presidential election.

He also planned to "murder dozens of people with a focus on murdering African-Americans," the Justice Department said.

At least he got the maximum sentence.
