I'm playing around with permutations of those addresses--and certainly street names and numbers can change in 35 years--but those are actual streets in Decatur that do not configure in a way that makes this possible. The current addresses are about 3.5 miles apart, with Alston continuing east into Atlanta, ending in East Lake Golf Club. 1907 Austin is now a newer construction, but searching newspapers.com indicates that there was previously (either the house numbers changed or this house is no more) a split level brick home there. There were obituaries for seemingly unrelated individuals living at that address in 1990 and 1993, and an arrest notice for a gentleman who was found in a gambling raid at the local VFW in 1981. Again, no relation to the later individuals. However, I can find no reference to 3859 Alston anywhere online or in newspapers. I'm inclined to think that's the incorrect one, but obviously it's hard to be sure.

I would assume based on clothing that the individual could be unhoused, possibly with a recent hospital stay. I'm not sure if the boots are rain boots or waders, but there is a creek in the woods behind 1907 Austin (Cobbs). There appears to be a trail or dirt driveway/road (labeled private property, with a gate) that runs from Glenwood into the area. But certainly not what I would think of as a public trail.
