GUILTY GA - Eight family members brutally murdered in Brunswick home, 29 Aug 2009

I know this may not have anything to do with this case but as I was reading I just thought how similar these two cases are? Both sets of victims killed by blunt force trauma and both having a three year old to survive. It was just interesting I thought. Sorry if I shouldn't post other cases here.

It is eerily similar, corilin, no doubt.

All members who lived in each home viciously attacked. All murdered except one survivor in each family.

All died from blunt force trauma.

Both survivors are three year old children. One little boy and one little girl.

I think that case will continue to have similarities and both horrible crimes happened with the element of surprise. It wouldn't shock me if both of these families were sleeping at the time the perpetrator crept in unnoticed until it was too late.

In about a week's time 5 family members lost their lives in Illinois and 6 family members in Florida, 4 in Va then add 8 in Georgia who lost their lives on 8-29. Four families murdered. That is 23 deaths alone and we know there are way more that doesn't get the media spotlight.

Our society at times seems to have become a killing field.

imo

I couldn't agree with you more. It's insane that it even happens, but this many in such a short amount of time? Holy crap! What's in the air?

The mug shot of GuyJr was from the day of the 911 calls. He was arrested on charges of tampering with evidence, lying to police and illegal possession of prescription drugs and marijuana.
I have not seen any information about him ever being arrested before, but I suppose he could have a record although it was not printed when the rest of the familys records made the media which leads me to believe he may not have had any charges before. Christy Toler's record is pretty bad for such a young woman. J.West coke charge also is concerning. Much more then the weed GuyJr had on him. And Still no one can answer if Belinda West son lived there and if he didnt why did she think he would be there. I realy strongly believe that needs to be explored. As she showed up at the scence of the investagation, screaming and crying ''they killed my boy " who the h3!! are they? And how does she know they did it? Much more to read into in that statement them the whole 911 tape (imo)

I’m not sure what to think of this whole case but maybe I can clear up one thing.
The use of the would “they”….Soul I don’t know if you live in the south or have ever spent much time down here, but the use of they like this is a colloquialism, if you will, that means “somebody” and is used when the person, people, events, or organization is unknown. It does not imply either A) that there were multiple person or B) That she has a specific “they” in mind.
It’s the exact same thing as yelling out “somebody killed my boy” or “my boys been killed”
Another common example would be if you can home to find your TV was stolen by a random burglary you would yell out “They stole my TV”.
This expression is widely used especially by African Americans (although not only by them). So I would not read anything into that at all. It sounds like a perfectly normal expression of grief to me (and I would imagine anyone who lives in the south). You would have to really be looking for some kind of conspiracy to give this any consideration, but I could see if you were not from the south it may sound strange to you.

OBE made this point to me a few post back , and I dont think I would question it as much IF she hadnt showed up at the scene, said her son lived there and had she not expected him to be there based on her actions and statements.
I do live in the south, I do understand the use of the word they. I dont think You have to be really have to be searching for some kind of conspiracy to give this consideration. Your assuming her use of the would is generic. Maybe it was maybe it wasnt. We really dont know if she had a "they" in mind when she said it or not. I hope the LE at least asked her. Dont you?

And being from the south I still doent see it as being the same as yelling out somebody killed my boy. They killed my boy could be used as unknown person but one would still know which group/people/etc they themself where referencing.

I think that I might yell something out like "they killed my boy" without having any specific known person or group of known persons in mind---- I might just mean whoever broke into the home (or was driving the car, or doing whatever led to the death) was also responsible for the death of my boy.

Although it is possible that the person in question had someone or a group of persons in mind, it is just as possible that she didn't have a clue.

One Month Later, Still Few Answers to Brunswick Massacre Questions

By Jared Halpern, Reporter@ September 28, 2009 6:12 AM Permalink | Comments (0)

Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering is still hearing a lot of questions about the beating deaths of eight people inside a Brunsick-area mobile home last month. Even his children's teachers have tried finding out new information from the lawman.

"And they get my same response," Doering says. "Right now what's important here that you need to know is we have the right person. We've got the only person. And we've got all the evidence to prove he did it."

Guy Heinze, Jr., 22, has been indicted on eight first degree murder charges for beating to death members of his family and a family friend.

A 3-year-old boy was also attacked, and a month later, the sole survivor is still listed in critical condition at a Savannah hospital.

I would think that if Guy Jr was on drugs at the time of his finding the bodies (say he was high on pot, took some opiates, benzos, etc) it would blunt how his reaction would be as opposed to being sober. Was there any drug tests done?
What's his younger brother have to say about all this?

LOL! I am from Georgia and believe me a lot of us say "they" all the time and don't mean a particular person or group. We use it for generalizations many times when we don't know who it is or how many.

imo

Same here in N.Carolina.

  • #654
Yankees use "they" as a generalization too. At least they do where I am from. I use it all the time when refering to the unknown.

WHAT???!!! Yankees be speaking the language of the
South???:blushing:

Seriously, I always thought this was just one of the "southernisms" that I grew up with!

  • #656
Nah, we say "they" all the time.

Lots of times, we don't know who "they" are (or is). Just like "they broke into my car again last night".

That is exactly what I told my husband.

From the Brunswick News:

"Attorneys look to limit publicity in murder case

10/20/2009

By MARY STARR
The Brunswick News

Attorneys for Guy Heinze Jr. have filed a number of pre-trial motions in his murder case, one of which would bar attorneys and law enforcement personnel from talking publicly about the case or to the media.

In a motion to control prejudicial publicity, Joseph W. Vigneri and Charles M.J. Nester of the Georgia Capital Defender's Office argue that in the weeks since Heinze was arrested for the murder of eight people and the attempted murder of a ninth victim in a trailer park at New Hope Plantation, "there has been massive, highly prejudicial publicity on both a local and national scale regarding this case."

Heinze's attorneys also allege that there has been "exceptionally prejudicial publicity emanating almost exclusively from state officials and court proceedings."

In addition to the gag order, in the motion Vigneri and Nester ask that Brunswick Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Amanda F. Williams, who has been assigned to hear the case, issue orders that exclude members of the media from all pre-trial hearings. They also ask that all records and transcripts in the case be sealed until a jury has been impaneled and sequestered or until after the trial, and prohibit the use of any cameras during pre-trial court proceedings.

The motions were filed Sept. 28.

Petitioning for gag orders and other relief is not uncommon in death penalty cases.

During the pre-trial phase of the Edenfield trial, Glynn County Superior Court Judge Stephen H. Scarlett ruled against requests by defense attorneys to have the pre-trial events closed to the media in the matters of David Edenfield, Peggy Edenfield and George Edenfield, the three family members accused of molesting and murdering 6-year-old Christopher Michael Barrios Jr. March 8, 2007.

The Brunswick News joined other media outlets in filing a successful counter-motion.

Glynn County District Attorney Stephen Kelley told The News last week that pre-trial hearings in the Heinze case are scheduled to begin in the next few weeks.

Heinze, 22, was arrested and charged with the murders of seven family members and a friend in a single-wide trailer at New Hope Plantation Aug. 29 and the attempted murder of a 3-year-old Byron Jimerson Jr., the son of the victims.

The state is seeking the death penalty against Heinze, who was indicted on eight counts of murder by a Glynn County grand jury Sept. 14.

Glynn County police contend that Heinze is the sole person responsible for the gruesome slaughter in the trailer, where he also lived.

Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering said in September, following analysis of the data by the state crime lab, that all of the victims had been beaten to death.

The victims were Guy Heinze Sr., 46, the father of Guy Heinze Jr.; Russell Toler Sr., 44; his children, Chrissy Toler, 22, Russell D. Toler Jr., 20, Michael Toler, 19, and Michelle Toler, 15; Russell Toler Sr.'s sister, Brenda Gail Falagan, 49; and Chrissy Toler's boyfriend, Joseph West Jr., 30."

Not sure about the "exceptionally prejudicial publicity emanating almost exclusively from state officials and court proceedings.". I'm amazed the world has passed by this incredible story so quickly. I know there is much more I would like to know.

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/local/news-article.aspx?storyid=146498&catid=3BRUNSWICK, GA -- A special memorial Sunday night in Glynn County. 8 people were remembered following that mass slaying at a mobile home community near Brunswick.

One by one, candles were lit as people in the small community gathered to honor the memory of those killed.

The mother of 4 of the victim's killed says this community support helps her grieve; even as the 9th victim of the mass slaying still recovers in the hospital.

"This was my family, my kids. Joe was my family. This was my family too all of them," said Diane Isenhour.

Guy Heinz Junior is charged in all 8 murders. He's a relative of 7 of the victims found killed in what police say is the most gruesome crime scene they've seen in years.

Ty Shawn Jones is a relative of the 8th victim, Joseph West, and believes West was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I just wanted to introduce myself. If there is protocol here I am not getting, please let me know.
I am fascinated by the 8 murders at New Hope Trailer Park in Brunswick Georgia on August 29, 2009.
As of today I have read the lone surviving 3 year old boy has been transferred from Savannah to a hospital in Atlanta. There was no comment on his condition.

I don't think Guy Heinze Jr. is guilty for all of the many good reasons given in this thread. I understand the defendant's attorneys have asked to close all proceedings they can and have requested a gag order from the court. I have not heard an answer to that request.
Am I on the main thread for people paying close attention to this case? There seem to be several. This looks like a great place to be updated with facts and updated with ideas and opinions from all of you. Your posts are very interesting.

Thank you

Greg

Hi Greg, Welcome to Websleuths, i tend to agree with you. From what i've read i don't think it's likely that only Guy could have killed all those people. I could be wrong, i think there is a lot more to the story though.
