This is the Facebook dedicated to Elyssa. It seems like she came from a happy family. There's many pictures of her on there.

I haven't seen much about the actual circumstances of her vanishing at school. Could it have been a kidnapping?

Details of Disappearance

Elyssa was last seen in Doraville, Georgia on January 28, 2003. That day she took the public bus to start the first day of classes at a new school in Clarkston, Georgia. She did arrive at school, and called her mother during the lunch break. She sounded happy and asked her mother if, when she got home, they could restyle her hair so it looked like her classmates'.
Elyssa was seen boarding the public bus with other students after school that afternoon, but she didn't get off at the stop near her home where she was supposed to meet her father and brother. No one reported seeing her get off the bus at any of the other stops, either. She has never been heard from again.
For years after her disappearance, Elyssa was classified as a runaway; her case has since been reclassified to an endangered missing child. Few details are available in her case.

Could it be that maybe a serial-killer or a serial-kidnapper was active between 1990 and 2005? I know about a case in Augusta, Georgia that happend in 1990 where two young girls were kidnapped and probably murdered.

About the Millbrook Twins.
The Millbrook twins were also classified as runaways. They are also teen girls.

I live in Augusta, and it's kind of locally "accepted" that the Millbrook twins were very likely killed by someone associated with their father, John, who was pretty involved in the drug scene. He passed away in 2021, I think, so we may never actually know. :( The news does a cold case review on it every few years.

It doesn't sound like there is any good reason for Elyssa Vasquez to be classified as a runaway (same with the Millbrook twins). I hate it when law enforcement agencies jump to those conclusions when it seems like the least likely answer. Also, if she was OCD, that typically would cause her to be more likely to stick to a routine, which makes being a runaway make even less sense.

First day at a new school? She was seen getting on the bus but never getting off? Maybe the bus driver needs to be looked at.

Maybe she accidentally missed her stop and then got off at the wrong stop, a predatory person saw her distress, and they approached pretending to help? Whatever happened, my heart goes out to her family. She obviously didn't "run away."
