Gang members who killed 14-year-old were looking for homeowner, sheriff says

I searched to see if already posted and didn’t see anything. I can’t imagine this child’s last moments on Earth. How terrifying and disgusting.

Channel 2 Action News has confirmed that five people have been arrested in the shooting death of a 14-year-old girl during a home invasion last week.

Haley Adams was killed Feb. 11 at her Coweta County home. She and her mother had only been living in the home off Bethlehem Church Road for a week, according to Coweta County Sheriff Lenn Wood.

Gunmen stormed into the house at 9:27 p.m. and made demands. Wood said they were looking for the man who owned the home. One of those arrested is the homeowner’s stepbrother.

While her mother was being held in the living room, Adams hid in a closet. Then, investigators say, she went for a BB gun and walked to the front door.

The gunmen fired off several shots, one of which hit Adams in the back. She was rushed to Newnan Piedmont Hospital, where she later died.“

Savage, unnecessary (of course), gang mentality, heinous and all the rest. And it cannot be undone.
Now an innocent, beautiful young woman is gone and will never be back on this earth. Just plain wiped off the planet. How many other lives around this innocent teen will be affected for the rest of their lives?

At least the bunch of 'em are locked up. I'm assuming all of them are proud of what they did -- if so, I wonder how long that'll last... Grrrr

Here's a bit of info on murder laws in Georgia -- looks like GA does have the Death Penalty --

Felony Murder
In a "felony murder" situation, a death occurs during the commission of an "inherently dangerous felony." Basically if you decide to rob a liquor store and accidentally kill the store clerk, then you will be guilty of felony murder. It doesn't matter that you didn't intend to shoot the clerk. The mere fact that you were committing a felony and killed someone can make you guilty of felony murder.

Degrees of Murder

Georgia does not classify murder as first-degree ("cold-blooded" killings) and second- degree (reckless disregard for human life). In Georgia, any killing with malice or a killing without provocation is murder. The severity of the punishment will depend on the seriousness of the surrounding circumstances.Other types of homicides include voluntary manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter.

Murder and felony murder cases are usually considered among the most heinous crimes and as such, the most severe punishments are reserved for them including life in prison or the death penalty.
